Just my personal bias, but I’ll never forgive Rolling Stone, and by implication Wenner (he was firmly in control at the time) for dismissing Kate Bush as “a cross between Patti Smith and a vacuum cleaner.”
Whenever the subject of Jann Wenner comes up, I can’t help but think back to his embarrassingly effusive praise of Mick Jagger’s incredibly forgettable album Goddess in the Doorway. I mean, I was certainly aware of his bias toward classic rock, but seeing him rush headlong to slobber over something simply because a ROLLING STONE had crapped it out helped me understand that I needn’t consult that magazine ever again if I wanted to read a decent music review.
I’m not sure who wrote the infamous 5* review of Pink Floyd’s The Final Cut, but that was the one which more or less permanently soured me on the rag in question.
I knew their reviews were full of shit when they dismissed the entire work of Triumph with a one sentence review based on one song (Allied Forces, not even the best song on the album). Now you may not like Triumph, Canada’s answer to Rush
but they’re better than that review.
I thought this article about the Rock Hall of Fame kinda fits here.
