# Japan Dopefest: the potential

OK to avoid hijacking the thread on eating sushi with fingers or forks or sticks, I’m starting this one up.
I’m not declarng anything unilaterally 'cause I’m out in the boonies here, but I want to see the potential of a Japan dopefest. Living in Hokkaido, I am closer to Russia than Tokyo, closer to the Moon than Tokyo, but if we were to do this, it would probably involve a lot of people traveling. Aomori sounds good to me. Tokyo would be OK, but I doubt I’d go down there just to see your sorry mugs! 😃
Just tossing the idea out…

I’d be interested, but I’m in Tokyo and I’m not coming all the way up to Hokkaido. Not unless it’s the middle of summer and I have lots of free time (unlikely any time soon)…

Summer is good, we got the Beer Gardens in Odori Park open in late July.
Hokkaido is not our only option, simply the most convenient for me. Plus we have the tastiest food 😃

When would you be having it? I’m in Tokyo for a few weeks every three months (April and July next), and I’d love to attend. I’ve met Dopers in Toronto, Montreal and San Francisco so far. It would be great to add Tokyo!

Looks like a few July / Summer votes are coming in. And Tokyo is probably the scene, since nobody from Hokkaido or the Tohoku area are chiming in.

I’m up for one in July/summer. Obon would be best, as I have 2 weeks off then. cckerberos do you ever make it into Osaka? I work in wakayama city (very close to JR wakayama station) on Fridays. And here I thought I was the only Kansai doper.

Why bother with Osaka? Check my location to the left… I live in Wakayama. A 5 minute walk from JR Wakayama station, in fact.

Great - although it would have to be somewhere near the station and we’d have to watch the time, as I finish at 9:20 and have to be careful of the train times. Is the 29th ok?

I could be up for that, possibly… I’ve wanted to get to Japan for a while now…
It depends on the timing, and what is happening here in Seoul at that time!😉 I’m a busy Astroboy these days…
As for airfare, **hersiarch** , it can’t be THAT much from here to Japan, can it? It’s only an hour flight! Could you possibly get a weekend off?

I’m going to be in the US from the 23rd to the 30th. But most any other Friday would be fine, I believe.
