During WWII, over 27,000 Americans were captured and interned by the Japanese. Only 16,000 of these POWs made it home. Because of horrible conditions and forced labor, death rates for American POWs in Japanese prison camps were 30 times higher than for POWs in German prison camps. We need to tell the private Japanese companies that profited from American slave-labor to remedy their wrongs. I doubt that 99.9% of the people who worked for those companies are even there (assuming the companies are even still around). What good would it do to sue some multinational corporation 60 years after the fact? Should America sue Mitsubishi because their ‘Zeros’ were used to bomb Pearl Harbor? ---

Hey great idea. Can we have the Americans punished for the systematic slaughter of native peoples? I’m thinking that all agricultural and mineral production from what was formerly native land should be seized by an international tribunal and the profits distributed to the descendants of the survivors of the attempted genocide of first nations people. ---

Has anyone noticed an increase in people coming to SDMB with an agenda, they post their statement in their very first message, and have no real interest in discussion, they are merely using SDMB as a platform for making speeches? First seethruart, and now this moron, who has been spamming usenet for ages. With the resumption of college classes, offering broadband internet access to millions of freshmen who are sadly in need of higher education, I think we should expect more crap like this. IMHO the mods should be ruthless with idiots like this. ---

Yes, the Japanese were cruel, but that was part of their culture. As far as Europeans taking over native American land, I was’ nt aware that they actually owned any. ---

How’s about we remember the Japanese-Americans who were forced into [internment camps](http://www.udayton.edu/~race/02rights/intern05.htm) around the same time? I must say, there are some remarkably thoughtful and insightful posts in this thread. ---

Every year in the fall, I see hordes of hate-filled posts by new students, for example, every fall the Japanese newsgroups are filled with new trolls, primarily korean and chinese students in the US. This group is no different. As far as college students, you must recognize the need for education since you yourself are a student. The idiots behind this thread are more in need of an education than others. They parade their ignorance like a badge of honor, and spread their hate across the internet. They have unfettered access to the internet for the first time, and let their ugly little minds spew on every place they find.
