I knew Charlie a little bit in the late 70s and was shocked to see he had died. Thanks for the link, **Wordman** ; that’s a really nice piece and the discography is impressive. When I met him (he was a customer of mine at a car dealership) I had no idea he was such a significant figure in the jazz world. He invited me to a gig he was playing at a little club in Venice, CA, and I went with a friend. I didn’t care for the kind of jazz he was then playing and he thought the fact that I would not pretend to like it was amusing. Hell of a nice guy and a great musician. Sorry to hear he had a “long illness”. No one should have to go through that. ---
