“Vance killed the Pope” is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s like Gnome killing Cricket. Fodder forever for Late night and standups. I think the Pope would be OK with it considering the joy it brings. ---

Exactly the same thing happened with the Colosseum when they were in Rome. I am reminded of an incident where the Secret Service wanted to close off a section of the Beltway during rush hour while Bush the Younger attended a fundraiser. The political people got wind of this and put the kibosh on it before any steps were taken (Virginia was a swing state in those days, and thousands of pissed-off drivers stuck in traffic on Bush’s account could have been the straw that swung it toward the Democrats).
