I’ve enjoyed Jeff Goldblum since _10 Speed and Brown Shoes_, but in this one I just get the feeling he is just doing the old Barny Miller character Dietrich. Anybody else get this feeling? Well…for those of you who remember Dietrich, of course. ---

No, he’s channeling Jeff Goldblum, just like he does in every role he plays. ---

I don’t watch the show (well I do, but on DVD and I’m nowhere near up to Jeff Goldblum) but right now I’m watching Barney Miller (also on DVD). I just started season 2 and Steve Landesburg is a guest crook on an early episode. I don’t remember when Dietrich showed up. My mom does watch however, and just a couple of days ago mentioned that she doesn’t like the direction the character seems to be going. I asked her the question posed in your OP, and she said she thinks he was more Dietrich-y prior to the current season and she preferred him that way. She said he just does a lot of staring now. ---

Loved Dietrich, love Goldblum… But I just don’t see the connection. Sorry…TRM
