Is there a hearsay rule on this board?
I don’t think so, a moderator reported some untruth he heard about me, so I think it’s OK.
Trying to compare Clinton’s bj to Jenna’s drinking is like comparing apples to oranges, namely that Clinton was the president and Jenna is the presidents’ daughter.
I didn’t agree with bashing Clinton about getting a bj (but I do feel the perjury charges were right). I strongly disagree with anyone who feels that Jenna’s stupidity is worthy of headline news, or for the topic of a GD thread.
Because her father is the president does not require her to be the most upstanding citizen. Her actions do not represent President Bush, or Republicans, or teenagers, or girls, only herself. Why people feel they must somehow connect Jenna’s actions to their opposition to the president is beyond me.
I have to agree that a “recovering alcoholic” should have an advantage at understanding the problems of others. That is my point exactly, GWB does not seem to be nearly as sensitive to the failings of others as he expects us to be of his. But then this might just fall perfectly in line with the assumption that Dub might be a dry drunk. If I remember correctly, dry drunks are guilty of being able to physically stop drinking but their thinking patterns and behavior is that of someone who has not fully addressed the psychological aspect of their addiction.

Be careful, Uke. You can damage your achille’s tendons back-pedaling that quickly.
Bricker,
Oh, man; you’ve done it now. N2K doesn’t have any faith in the Constitution. He purports that the document is, in and of itself, unlawful.
And I’m sure the bigoted right wing extremists say the exact same thing about your political beliefs, too.
There is a law in place in Texas that makes it a felony to use or posses a fake ID, regardless of age. The url you listed is just the specific laws pertaining to minors. When I attend a state sponsered alcohol training class about 15 years ago(the company I worked required everyone to attend since they served alcohol), the TABC person teaching the class stated that using a fake ID, or even possesing it, is a felony. A cop friend of mine verified that this is still the case(we discussing the incident in question. HOWEVER, it is rarely inforced in such cases. Often they will use it as a scare tactic(we could be sending you to the pen, your lucky you are just getting this ticket…)
Even as adults the actions of our children reflect upon us. Everyone knows that good parents can have bad kids, and bad parents can have good kids. We can only do our best to raise our children. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.
One thing I have always strived to do, however, is to make sure my kids learn from my mistakes. I do not hide the errors and mistakes I have made from them(like George hiding the DUI to protect the girls.) This is NOT the way to teach our children. Tell them how stupid it was. Tell them how embarassed you were. Tell them how you were made to feel like a common criminal. TEACH them. Do not hide from them. Perhaps if George had told his children about his DUI and tried to help them learn from it, he wouldnt be having these problems. Then again, perhaps not.
But all that aside, he is the president, and anything his family does is going to be subject to media scrutiny. If the girls want to drink so badly, they shouldnt be so stupid as to try to order beer illegally in a bar when they KNOW that everyone knows them, and KNOWS they are not 21. It shows that they think they are above the law.
[hijack] (either that or, much like their daddy, they are just plain clueless.) [/hijack]
Jenna can be taught not to buy beer.
Chelsea can’t be taught to be good looking.
The comparisons to Clinton’s BJ are stupid. What the President does, and what his relatives do are to different things. Clinton arguably abused his position of power, to take advantage of an intern, then used his power to cover it up, perjuring himself in the process.
Now if it turns out that George conspired with his daughter to help her buy beer, or if he used his powers as President to cover it up, or lies to the American people to say she was framed by political enemies and didn’t actually happen, then we would have something o talk about.
What we have here is a young kid making a fairly typical and common young kid’s mistake. Make anything else of it and you’re a fool.

Jury is still out on that one bubba.

That does it.
I’m coming to your town at midnight and painting a black moustache on your wife’s billboard.
While Scylla is correct to point out that comparing this situation to the last President’s personal dalliances is wrong, this incident is very analogous to the persistent bad press that followed Clinton around regarding his loser brother. Billy Carter comes to mind, too. Whether or not it is fair, it does and has happened.
That doesn’t make it right.

Citation to actual statutory law would be nice, here, else this is just hearsay that has no value in determining the Straight Dope.
Let’s take the stupid Anti-Bush arguments to a thread where they belong (like the Pit), along with the stupid Anti-Clinton rhetoric. One gets tired of rants about these leaders, and they don’t have much place in a discussion of the misfortunes of the current President’s daughter (who appears to have mislaid some of her grey material…).
I note that serious discussion of the issue of drinking ‘underage’ dissapeared quickly. Apparently no one wants to discuss something of social importance.
Looks like a third degree felony.
Just for fun:

Thanks.
Does this mean if arrested, she would have her rights to vote suspended?
Boy, this becomes more of a poster child for a liberal political agenda by the day…

Well, the delicious irony mounts. Apparently, it was old George W. himself that signed the law that got Jenna into trouble.
(Personally, as a Libertarian, I don’t care what someone does so long as it doesn’t infringe upon my rights, but I must also admit to being infuriated by this sort of hypocracy…politicians and their families getting off scot-free from crimes that those without influence suffer through, ESPECIALLY when these politicians are the very ones advocating the laws in the first place!!)

Do you have even a shred of evidence that this has happened or might happen in this case, or did you invent this scenario from whole cloth?
