There’s just no sane thread of thought that starts with ‘Who should play Miss Marple?’ and ends with ‘Jennifer Garner’. Those two are disconnected points in two distinct universes. But anyway, it’s probably my fault for expecting anything remotely approximating a sane thread of thought from Hollywood. ---

Heh. I don’t remember which of her bazillion novels had this, but Christie once created a minor character who was a thinly-veiled depiction of herself. She had this English mystery novelist arguing vigorously with a movie producer who wanted to change the writer’s “quirky Finnish detective” into a young guy with a love interest. The fictional novelist resisted all these attempts vigorously, citing the fact that she had millions of fans who liked the detective just the way he was, duh. I wonder how Christie would have felt about David Suchet’s portrayal of Poirot? I think he’s just perfect. ---
