As in the malware thread I think the thing to do would be to take Jenny McCarthy out into the desert, bury her up to the neck in a fire-ant nest after pouring honey all over her. Or, better yet, exposing her to a few diseases she isn’t vaccinated against and seeing how dispassionate she is about them at that point. In fact…I’m thinking that would be true justice. (I REALLY hate the pro-disease folks…and I’m all for adopting that as their new label) ETA: Anyone know if Oprah is vaccinated? -XT ---

Gah! As both the parent of a child diagnosed with autism and the aunt of an immune-suppressed transplant patient who relies on herd immunity to survive, this shit makes me so mad I want to stab someone. Believe me, I know the horror of getting this kind of dx. You want to scream at whatever gods you worship “Take me! Kill me! Hit me with a train! But not my baby!!!” But then you get your shit together, educate yourself and get a treatment plan implemented so you can do something that will actually HELP your child. Not chelation, not pulling vaccines… diet can help with symptoms because many autistic kids have gut issues, but diet and bullshit will not cure your child. ABA and other therapies are the only proven methods to treat autism. There is no miracle cure, no pill or injection or hyperbaric treatment. I have watched insane parents go broke endangering their children with dangerous, unproven “remedies” often pushed by the same folks who are making money off it. Jenny McCarthy is a moron whose only previous claim to fame was sucking her own nipple in a _Playboy_ photo spread. The anti-vax people are idiots. :mad: Stupid cunt. ---

In all fairness to the wackos though, the autism—vaccine link has not been completely discredited by all reputable researchers. There are still some nagging issues which bear interest. At this point the theory is on very shaky ground, but it has not been completely disproved. However, that still doesn’t justify basing important decisions concerning your child’s welfare on the vitriolic rantings of a woman who is intellectually incapable of passing even a community college-level statistics or microbiology course. ---

This case was reported as a governmental admission that there’s a vaccine/autism link, but it’s more complex than that. See [here](http://www.theness.com/neurologicablog/?p=203) for a more detailed explanation. I don’t fully understand the case myself, it appears that this was a test case for thousands of other attempts to get government compensation for vaccine damage. What the conclusion seems to be is that the victim in this case had a unique medical condition that may have indeed caused an adverse reaction to a vaccine, and thus was entitled to compensation, but that this wasn’t intended to be a concession of a general autism-vaccine link, but rather a very specific case. The fact that this case was settled out of court strongly indicates that. As I said, this was a test case for thousands of other cases - if the plaintiff’s lawyers were convinced that they had proved a vaccine/autism link, they wouldn’t have settled it out of court - they’d have made the case in court, and if they won, they’d be laying the groundwork for winning thousands of other cases. The fact that they settled out of court here is something of an implicit admission that they couldn’t use the case to establish a greater vaccine/autism link. It’s a more complex case than “government admits link!” - and generally supports the idea that there isn’t a link between autism and vaccines. ---
