Is anyone else kind of disappointed with some of the triple stumpers that have been showing up? Especially since these are former champions, so it’s not stage fright or freezing. Years ago, having a triple stumper that I knew was a rare thing. And I’m not particularly good at Jeopardy - entire categories often go by without me knowing anything. But last night when no one could deduce or guess that the element in the first nuclear reactor was uranium I couldn’t believe it. Almost as bad as not knowing about Steve McQueen’s motorcycle scene in “The Great Escape”. ---

Sure, that’s wrong because plutonium is essentially a man-made element, but at least it’s radioactive and can be used in a nuclear reactor. ---

I think “officially declare the winner” is a bit ambiguous. I thought they meant concede the election, since Trump didn’t and they said “he” so it wasn’t Hillary Clinton. “Declare” as part of their official duties wasn’t clear from the clue, to me at least. Maybe that made it a good and clever clue. I like ones where they test your knowledge, not your ability to understand what they’re asking. ---

It had to due with a painting of Suzanna (biblical). The “boobage” part of the clue was unnecessary and beneath the dignity of the show. ---

Ken was never the ideal for the job. It just seems that in the 2020s, North America cannot produce a charming intellectual. Fifty years ago, Wally Cox or Tony Randal could draw an audience as likable neurotics, but that archetype is extinct. YouTube is full of personable esotericists, but it’s doubtful that people like Penguinz0 or J.J. McCullough could transfer from webcam to TV studio successfully. It’s a game show, but the traditional carnival barker/car salesman gameshow emmcee won’t work because it’s an intelligent gameshow. Someone who commands an abundance of trivia as well as a relaxed, open demeanor with the players and audience both studio and home is a hard paradox to straddle and pair of shoes to fill. ---

Especially how uptight the judges are on some questions, to use a word that isn’t in the dictionary! ---

Since all the other aspects of the boobage question have been covered I feel obligated to point out that the text of the clue didn’t appear on the screen… Lotto’s painting was shown as a visual instead. So for better or worse the word ‘boobage’ did not appear in all caps Korinna on that fateful broadcast. I imagine they’re saving that for the Tournament of Champions. Obligatory non-boobage content: I’m late chiming in about this, but I was amused last week when contestant Long Nguyen led off the first round by getting the Daily Double on an $800 clue and then lamenting that he hit it ‘too soon’. I get the strategy of starting with higher value clues but you don’t get to feel put-upon if you hit a DD before banking any money if you do. ---

Hoist by his own petard. Notice that now the top row are the last clues to be taken, every time? I wish the writers could take notice and start making some high value clues that require the lower value to make sense. They don;t have to do it all the time. And I am not a top-down purist.
