I can’t believe this thread goes on and on over what is essentially an accidental misstatment with no hidden meanings. A slip of the tongue that could happen to anyone. Why, just this morning I meant to say to my wife, “Would you like another cup of coffee?”, but instead accidentally said, “You ruined my life, you heartless soul-sucking bitch.” So you see, no subtext there. ---

A Catholic Prime Minister wouldn’t be able to participate in the selection of bishops, but there’s no restriction against a Catholic PM (and, in recent years, both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats had Catholic party leaders who would have become PM had things been different) ---
