Jeremy Renner seriously injured

OK, thanks. Supposedly, one of the neighbors is a doctor and applied a tourniquet. Otherwise his story could have been more tragic. (Like what happened to Anton Yelchin.)

Ugh, what a terrible thing. Did his family and others win any kind of money from the company? I believe a potential law suit was brewing because of confusion over the parking brake and whether it was on or off.

A retired farmer I knew fell from his tractor while brush hogging. Deadman disabled. Closed casket.

A former colleague of mine was killed when his tractor rolled on top of him when he was trying to pull a stump out of the ground on his property.

One thing I always wonder about presumably wealthy actors/sports figures though: why are they doing this stuff themselves? A number of years ago I remember an MLB pitcher was sidelined because he’d injured his hand doing yard work - pruning bushes in front of his house, IIRC. I would think especially with sports figures, who are always one injury away from ending their careers, if I were them, I’d get a professional to do my yard work, etc.

When he’s not acting in movies trying to extend an existing franchise or trying to advance his musical career by launching a widely-derided app, he remodels houses as a very lucrative side hustle. Say what you will about him but he clearly likes to work.

Stranger

And now he’s in the hurt locker.

Sure, but now what? Actors and sportsfolk and to a somewhat lesser extent, musicians need bodies (and in the case of actors, faces) that are fully functional.

looks like now he’s in for a second round of surgery

Moving snow is deeply satisfying?

Because they want to. In this case, he got run over by what is* - for people who do not need them for industrial or municipal work - a toy for the rich.

*if the above link is correct.

The latest:

Well, yeah, clearly. But I wonder where their agents/managers/SOs are in the mix.

The first two do what they are told. They work for him not the other way around. The SO lives with him on the big mountain property bought so he can do outdoor things he likes to do. Some people don’t like paying people to do the things they can do for themselves.

Was the SO supposed to do the plowing or one of his agents?

Is this a serious question?

This is exactly what caused the death of a friend of mine. He was tossed out of his boat (may have grazed a dead-head). The deadman switch should have cut the motor. Instead, the motor continued to operate, and the boat left him behind in the cold, cold ocean, alone. He died of hypothermia, and we found him (massive search) the next morning.

If he’d had the deadman switch on the boat motor, he could have simply swum to the (now not moving) boat, and climbed on board. Instead, the boat took off, and left him to die. He had his lifejacket on when we found him washed up on a beach.

A hardware store back in my hometown used to attach a ‘holster’ with a long wood dowel in it to every snowblower they repaired, handy for use in clearing the auger. The owner did this at no charge – as he said, “I have too few customers to risk losing any like that.”

It’s a rush.

Well, if he’s off the Mt. Rose highway, CareFlight is about the only option. They describe his place as ‘Tahoe’, so from there, its three ways of Fuck to the nearest hospital (by road). He’s Movie and SnowCat rich. He can afford it.

One of the first lessons I learned is never put your feet underneath a raised plow blade, even when parked. I know a few people who have lost limbs, mostly feet, due to the blade crashing down.

Can be deadly due to blood loss.
