i am being abused by someone here who calls me a ‘jerk’ i have no idea what a ‘jerk’ is. does it apply to women? what should i do? ---

good move. a moderator here calls me a ‘jerk’ in american parlance about a comment made by me in a thread which was harmless. this guy insulted me. called me a jerk. ---

You are. I’m going to take this at face value and define a jerk. From the Urban Dictionary: jerk: An insensitive, selfish, ignorant, cocky person who is inconsiderate and does stupid things. Your post in the original ‘eternal hellfire’ thread showed jerkish behavior and in my infraction PM I warned you of the first rule, ‘don’t be a jerk’. Please do not do so or your posting privileges will be revoked. ---

Here’s **Jonathan Chance’s** [warning.](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=16708398&postcount=804) **sentrix** , you joined only two weeks ago and already have over 100 posts. “Don’t be a jerk” is the most basic rule on this board. If you can’t figure out what’s jerkish and what’s not, I would strongly advise you to cut your posting back very drastically until you _do_ figure it out. Read more than you post. The vast majority of our posters don’t have any trouble understanding or following this rule. If you can’t figure it out in the same way they have, I regret to say that your stay here is likely to be short. ---
