In doing some research to answer my own question in [this GQ thread,](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=153712) I came across this site for the [Sperm Bank of New York.](http://www.sperm1.com/sbny/donor.html) If you pass their screening, they will pay you $500 per sample, providing you are willing to release your name with your sample. If you insist on anonymity, it’s only $100. During the testing period, there is a fixed number of uncompensated donations. But I haven’t found any limits once you’ve passed their tests. Think of it! In my youth, I could have earned 30 grand a month easy! With proper exercise and diet, maybe 45 grand! What a dream job! What a cream job! For that kind of money, I would have moved to New york. NOW I hear about it, once I’m over the age limit (40) and already had a vasectomy. ---

I auditioned once, at NYU. I was in my late thirties. Although I’d had a good track record (two kids), my motility didn’t cut it any more. I asked for another shot when I got turned down, but they were firm. ---

Well, before y’all get too excited, a friend of mine auditioned when we were in college at NYU. I don’t think they’ll accept an unlimited number of donations within a given time period. (My friend ended up not doing it, because he decided it would be too weird to be walking down the street 25 years after the fact and see a kid who looked just like him, and not have any idea whether it was his.) ---

Don’t forget, that’ 1080 kids _per year._ Actually, perhaps more, because it might not be necessary to use up a whole sample for an insemination. Eva, I’m sure you’re right about about unlimited donations within a time frame. But I’d milk it for everything I could get! ---

Sure, $100 or $500 a pop is nice, but think about how lucky women are. One measly egg, an egg that they will proably let go to waste that month, can rake in thousands of dollars! Christ! Some days I wish I had a set of ovaries. ---

I was a sperm donor in the early 80’s. It was to a fertility clinic. Both donations (two shots per donation) went to married couples where the husband was infertile. They didn’t tell me whether either donation resulted in a pregnancy per policy. I may have two 20 year old biological offspring out there. Crazy. Haj ---

**Early out** Calm down. We are only jerking your chain. You should realize when you tell dopers “_If anyone else posts any more double-entendres in this thread, there’s going to be trouble! I was thinking of doing it, but then the federal government passed a law that made it illegal to hold information about sperm donors in confidence. Apparently, the kid(s) could have looked me up or even asked me for child support, as far as I know, so I passed on that. Evil Ex Roommate auditioned, but was insufficially motile. ---

According to [this,](http://www.arr1.com) it takes 4-5 months of drugs, screening, and minor surgery to get the egg, so ultimately you only make about $1000 a month, not 30 grand. 😃 ---
