It’s certainly illegal in Britain - they have to give ‘reasonable’ notice before requesting access to the property, except in an emergency. And that includes if they’re fixing things. ---

He can enter, however, if he has to. For example, let’s say **ccwaterback** goes on vacation and her pipes burst. The landlord has the right to enter the apartment to fix the pipes. If anything turns up missing, the tenant has the right to file a police report. Question answered. Now, this one’s for **ccwaterback**. You made some disgusting generalizations in the linked thread, and now you’re blaming everyone else for holding a grudge this long? :rolleyes: Robin ---

To expand on **MsRobyn** ’s comments, landlords can also enter if they give “sufficient notice” which is only like three days (rules vary in different areas). If you’re on a two week vacation then they may be able to enter too. To expand on **MsRobyn** ’s other comment, **ccwaterback** do you or do you not stand by your last few comments in the linked thread? Haj ---

When I got home from my last vacation, I noticed all my drawers had be rifled through. I don’t think anything was taken, just someone snooping. I can tell someone was rifling though my drawers because all of the contents were shifted towards the back, like someone opening and closing the drawers real fast, I know I don’t do that. Then I noticed the filter in my AC was changed, so I would assume that’s the excuse for coming in. I think she probably uses that as an excuse to enter while I’m not there, like changing that filter is an emergency. I told her to leave a note next time she comes in, so at least I will know who’s been there. ---

If you think she’s entering your place to snoop and using minor repairs as a pretense to enter, talk to your local tenants’ rights organization, or talk to your local law school’s landlord-tenant clinic to get some legal ways to put a stop to it. Landlord issue: Well I really don’t have anything to hide (guns, drugs, etc.), it’s just the principle of the issue. She passed away a few months ago, now her son takes care of the place, and he lives several states away. I have been surrounded by snoops all my life, they just really annoy me. * * * - People that take advantage of your offer to help. Well, if you offer to help, you can’t complain about being asked to help. But, when they ask you to do ALL of the heavy, dirty, dangerous stuff, well, they are being jerks. Reminds me of the roofing jobs I have “helped” with and found myself on the roof alone while the other “helpers” were “helping” in the kitchen. ---

People who say “I don’t care, anything” when you ask them a) what they want for dinner, b) what music they want to listen to, c) where they want to go, d) what movie to rent, but who still complain about it because you picked something they happened not to like. Not to make this a gender issue, but in my limited observation, women do this to me more often than men do. ---

The solution is to pick the most balls out raw man film you can find. “Iron Monkey” is one of my favorites… ---

If I say I don’t care what we’re watching and that shows up in the dvd player, I’m a happy woman. On the other hand since something like 75% of our spousal dvd collection used to be Hong Kong movies, that’s probably not surprising. However, we’ve a rule when it comes to eating out -if you veto a suggestion then you have to make another suggestion instead. The only thing is we each have a couple of places we won’t eat, which we save for manoeuvering the other into vetoing so they have to make the decision. 😃 My nomination for jerks: people who get offended when you ask them politely to move out of your way (I mean, door-way standers are bad enough, but being sniffy about it just crosses the line to jerky.) People who insist that “their” way is the only way to do anything. Not just insisting it’s the superior way, but that it’s the only valid way. Grr. ---
