Until I read his Wikipedia entry today I had no idea he was born in London. His Jewish parents fled Poland and were refugees. ---

Not only that - he was born in Highgate London Underground station, while it was being used as a shelter from German bombing during World War II. ---

What does it say about me that my first thought was “Gee, 79 is kind of young to die.” It says I’m 73, I guess. ---

I see people like William Shatner walking around healthily and actively at age 90+ and Samuel L. Jackson still being a cool guy in movies at age 74. 79 seems young. Springer was active at least somewhat recently. I don’t know the last time I saw him on TV, but it doesn’t feel that long ago. ---
