Jessica Jones - Series 1 Release Thread [Open Spoilers]

P.S. (as no one else has mentioned it) I loved it every time Robyn derisively referred to Jessica as “cougar”.
(that would be 24 year old actress Colby Minifie talking to 33 year old actress Krysten Ritter)

There’s a photo of him in the police precinct when they’re all holding guns on each other. Blink and you’ll miss it.

Anyone know anything about the Luke Cage series? I am excited for it after seeing this.

I imagine it will have something to do with whatever was in that thumb drive.

I thought the kickoff would be Jessica’s influence as a PI combined with the loss of his bar leading to him starting “Hero for Hire.”

We already found out what was in the thumb drive, didn’t we? It was videos of Kilgrave’s childhood and his parents experimenting on him.

Kilgrave wasn’t the only person featured in the creepy human experiments videos. Jessica mentions that there are other children just from the files that she’s actually sorted through. When she gives the drive to Luke, she tells him about the human experiment videos that she saw and he says something like “I’m on it too.” Jessica tells him that she didn’t see any files that had anything to do with him.

Ah, okay, I missed that part. I think I found out how Jessica got her powers, if something I saw yesterday can be believed (and it does seem Marvel-plausible). Spoilering since it’s not about the current series:

The truck they ran into that killed her parents and brother was full of radioactive material.

That’s the comic book explanation. I highly doubt it’s going to be the TV series explanation.

It seems like you saw the entire season, but you may have missed the reference: Jessica was apparently experimented on by IGH, the same company that gave Simpson his abilities. This was in the paperwork their mom gave Trish, which said IGH paid all her bills during Jessicas recovery. It’s likely how she survived the accudent.

I assumed the truck the car crashed into was IGH and it was the contents that spilled on her, resulting in her powers.

So I just watched episode 9. Why, exactly, couldn’t they just use Kilgrave’s parents as expert witnesses? Seems to me their word would carry some considerable impact… After all, this is a world where people do occasionally get freakish powers through accidents or experiments.

And why is nobody ever even suggesting wearing noise-cancelling ear plugs? Seems like it’d be the first thing to try.

They don’t need a confession. A confession would be worthless, because it would be coerced - and if Jessica takes Kilgrave to a police station with his larynx ripped out, that’s going to be pretty trivially easy to demonstrate. What they need is a demonstration - proof that Kilgrave’s powers both exist, and are strong enough that a person under their influence can’t be held responsible for their actions.

That was my thought as well.

That, and the reaction to seeing Kilgrave should be to put your hands to your ears and say “LALALALALALALA…” while charging at him and trying to kick him into unconsciousness.

Uh no, she tells him she only looked at the files about kilgrave because the rest was meant for him from his wife.

I presume some of the info on the drive would have to be about Cage, else why would Cage’s wife be involved at all? Actually, that whole subplot is still kind of hazy to me, but I can see it being needed as the springboard for Cage’s own series and origin story, as well as establishing IGH as the overarching big-bad of these interconnected shows, rather like how HYDRA is for Agents of SHIELD and its satellites (i.e. Agent Carter). If and when there’s a crossover, heck, IGH might be the Independent Group of Hydra, a spin-off.

Not using a Spolier Box since we’re speculating on something actually from this series and we already agreed Open Spoilers:

From the series, we know that IGH runs the program that gave Simpson his abilities.

The connection between IGH and Jessica has, so far, only been explained as to IGH paying all of Jessica’s medical bills. So, for now, both avenues of speculation are valid: the truck spilled something on her / IGH experimented on her during recovery. Hell, it’s even valid to speculate that both those things happened. Another possibility is that she got powers from a spill during the accident but that IGH doesn’t know and simply paid her medical bills to get ahead of a PR disaster that one of their trucks killed a teen girl’s entire family. I’m guessing, however, that they do know about her powers since “Villain who knows more about the hero than the hero knows her/himself” is a popular trope.

If it was a chemical spill in the comic books, I wonder that they just may have decided to keep that for the series. After all, if IGH is going to be the Big Bad connecting the Netflix Series, the guy from the other series had a run-in with a chemical spill from a crashed truck as well. Coincidence? Also, since when do turtles eat pizza?

Uh… feeling like a badass laying down your big “Uh no”?
I said she told him she didn’t see the files that had anything to do with him.
You said she told him she only looked at the files about Kilgrave.

Uh, so? Uh, what distinction are you grandstanding about? Uh, we both stated the same facts just with a different focus and emphasis.

I have not read this yet …but I’m about to.

All the Connections to the Marvel Universe You May Have Missed in Jessica Jones

I agree with this. Did we ever learn what Reva’s connection to the thumb drive was? Why did Killgrave need her to get it?
