Jesus Mary and Joseph, I’ve had enough. :mad: I can’t honestly be the only person left alive that actually remembers when MTV showed videos. And don’t give me that MTV2 bullshit, because there isn’t a cable system in the free fucking world that carries it. I didn’t get it in Chicago, and I damn sure aren’t getting it here in Phoenix. I was sitting here thinking about how VH-1 used to show easy-listening, old-timer music like Mike Bolton and Whitney Houston, and the more “subversive” tunes were on MTV. Now, if you catch them on the right night, you can actually catch a “Metallica: Behind the Music” special on VH-1. And it’s not even the fact that I can’t flip on the channel without being annoyed by the proliferation of boy bands and hiphop fodder. It’s the fact that the shows they put on NOW can’t even capture the mental capacity of “Singled Out,” not notoriously the most intelligence-ridden program ever. What the fuck is the deal with the show “Tailgaters,” for example? I used to go out looking for a date so I wouldn’t HAVE to hang out so much with my loser fucko friends. Now they have a whole show where you can invite them to watch on closed-circuit television and make suggestions accordingly. First of all, most of my friends are less qualified than I am to make ANY sort of dating decisions, much less to give me the Roman yay-or-nay at date’s end on my romantic future. And Jimmy Fallon’s right–Carson Daly IS a huge tool. The guy’s got the emotional range of a Slurpee machine. You just wanna go up and grab the little bastard by the shoulders and shake him: “WHAT THE HELL’S THE MATTER WITH YOU!? CRACK A FUCKING SMILE! THERE ARE 4,000 SCREAMING TEENAGE GIRLS WAITING TO SLOBBER YOUR KNOB AFTER THE TAPING! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU SO UNHAPPY ABOUT???” The Real World is SO over. So’s Road Rules, or the Real World/Road Rules/Watch Has-Beens Piss and Moan About Each Other Show or whatever the hell they’re calling it these days. Cribs has become such a parody of itself it’s not even funny. I swear, some of these people are going out and buying new furniture and entire cases of Cristal before the cameramen show up. And don’t even get me started on “The Osbournes.” If I have to see his teenage son’s slightly-awkward face one more time, I swear I’m going to commit _hari kari_. And of course, since it’s only marginally innovative and contains shitloads of cursing (oooh! subversive!) MTV feels the need to show the fucking shit every other hour on the hour. And **PLEASE** , can someone tell Kelly that she’s only been allowed to put out a goddamn cover of “Papa Don’t Preach” because of the show? I’d hate for her to think for one flat second she’s got any sort of musical talent to back up the album sales, which I can only imagine must be a direct result of subliminal advertising. Fuck. I’m 26 years old and MTV makes me feel like I’m 50. Glad to see my demographic has absolutely no coverage whatsoever anymore. On further review, apparently I’m old. My wife said so. ---

I agree with you totally, but you want to know what the worst thing MTV does? When they do their top 10 (or 20 or whatever) countdown, **they don’t play the entire video**! WTF?! Either play the whole damn thing or don’t play it at all! Instead they chop a good minute or so off of most of the (admittedly shitty) songs and leave me with–in one particularly troubling instance–freakin Enrique Iglecias songs stuck in my head for the rest of the week! And that, my friends, is totally unforgivable. ---

I still watch Undressed and Jackass when they’re on. I got hooked on the stupid soaps that they are in college, and can’t escape. I don’t watch anything else on that channel. Occasionally, there’s a good ‘Behind the Music’ or ‘Storytellers’ or even a concert on VH-1, but it’s also mostly crap. I usually only watch it after 2AM, when videos are on. I’m younger than you and you’re making \*\*me[b/] feel old… ---

We finally got MTV2 on my cable system here and I’ve tried to watch it a couple times. They have ads now on regular MTV that talk about how MTV2 is all about the videos. Both times, when I have turned to MTV2, the same show has been on. It’s called control freaks (or something like that) and viewers can vote online for the next video to be played. Sounds pretty good, right? Wrong. From the very beginning to the very end of every video, the entire right third of the screen is blocked by the 3 candidates for “next video” along with current vote percentages. To keep the video in proportion, the top third is also blocked off with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF INTEREST. Do you have any idea how annoying that is? Yeah, they play music videos… on about half of my TV screen. Fuckers. ---

Well part of the reason mtv had to start showing more home made shows is a lot of bands after the initinal “any band with a camcorder can make a video” phase was over they got expensive and most bands/record companies quit making a lot of them meaning less videos to show Althouhg this isnt anything new as mtv used to have shows on during the say since the mid/late 80s when theyed run comedy shows julie brown shows and dance shows ect a lot of the day Vh1 had turned into the “oldie video” channel for a while when it conctrated on stuff from the 70’s and 80s Ironically tho I find it funny as a lot of the metal/hard rock stuff that they wouldnt play on vh1 is now shown at times on vh1… Last show I watched on either station on a reg basis was loveline on mtv Behind the music and rotten television ( with johnny rotten of the sex pistols ) on vh1 and the countdowns that theyed have The best one was when dee snider was doing the count down and they reached "we arent going to take it anymore " and he discussed his fight over labeling in music needless to say hes still pissed they sold him out At least vh1 dosent quit at midnight -6 am to sell infomercials like they used to ---

I remember the first year MTV came out. I got to see it at a friend’s house. My mom was not about to _pay_ for television, and I was too poor to pay for anything extra, when I moved out(again) a couple months later. I think for about three months, it was way cool. Innovative. Fun! Different! Happenin’! (yes, we said that, then) But then it sucked whales’ ass, much like now. I haven’t even turned it on on my own in about twelve years. The last time I was cajoled into watching it was a couple or so years ago when my kids were screaming that Aerosmith was upstaging RunDMC at the music awards. I definitely sat down to watch Steven Tyler prancing down the aisle. I haven’t seen “The Osbournes” or anything else on MTV. And from what I’ve read here, I have no plans on doing so. Bleh. ---

Oh, I’m not THAT old (25), I’ve just been watching it ever since I was a little girl. EHehehe…I still remember those Duran Duran vidoes…and Art of Noise, Depeche Mode, etc…etc… ---

Remember when “The Young Ones” was on MTV? “Remote Control”? “The Ben Stiller Show”? And what was that show that had really strange British shorts; I think I recall one called “The Slags”? When I wasn’t working much and home most of the day, I’d sit through TRL and feel dirty afterwards. This summer programming beach shit is out of control, too. And **Chastain86**? Don’t make me come up there and thrash you for your unkind remarks about The Real World. 😃 Since I don’t watch soaps and Beverly Hills 90210 is off the air, TRW is all I have left. ---

Anyone remember coming home from a keg party on a Saturday night and then watching “Headbanger’s Ball”? Granted, a lot of it was cheesy 80’s metal, but it was still better than anything on today. Or, remember the excitement of a “World Premier Video[sup]tm[/sup]”? I can’t believe they _still_ have The Real World on. That was an interesting idea at first, but christ, it got old by halfway through the 2nd season. ---

Oh my god! liquid television!! The Young Ones!! I was 16 When MTV was introduced and I thought I had died and gone to heaven…I watched at least 12 hours a day for the entire summer. Liquid Television and the Young ones (both on Sunday nights) were my two absolute favorites! You can also get The Young Ones videos at some libraries. These two shows would stand the test of time I’m sure if MTV would put them back on but I suppose there’s little chance of that happening. ---

Liquid Television also had **The Head** … I think you can get episodes of LT on video, though. Heck, if NBC brought back “Friday Night Videos”, I’d be happy. At least then we’d see some videos. ---
