So basically JCS is John Locke and Judas is Jack Shepard?

> I always saw Judas in this production as being more concerned with the day-to-day salvation of the masses–feeding them, clothing them, getting political freedom for them. [snip] because Jesus would not use his popularity to get the crowds to fight, Judas thought they would all be killed, and he couldn’t let that happen.

10 year old thread, and post by a poster who hasn’t posted in 4 years, but I want to address this point, and you can’t stop me. Nyaah.

While this is right in that Judas fears that his fellows will be slaughtered, he doesn’t want Jesus to fight, since he doesn’t feel that they can stand up to the Romans. (He’s certainly right, when it’s just Jesus followers, though Judas seems to feel it’d be true, even if the entire Jewish nation rose up at once.) He wants him to keep his head down.

The most key song is Heaven On Their Minds, where Judas says the following:

> [@](#):
>
> Listen, Jesus, do you care for your race?
> Don’t you see **we must keep in our place**?
> We are occupied; have you forgotten how put down we are?

(And continues in that vein.)

Simon is the one who wants Jesus to fight. Judas, like the priests, quite justifiably feels that if they make too much noise, they’ll get unwanted attention from the Romans, and it’s Jesus letting the good works go to hell, while losing control of Simon’s faction that’s the most obvious reason for his going to the priests.

Also, I can’t resist…Sweet zombie Jesus!
