Some people think jokes about lynchings are funny. Some people think jokes about famine and genocide are funny. And some even think that jokes about dead American troops in Iraq are funny. The rules keep shifting though. Would it have been okay to be hyperbolic about violence against a _poor_ white woman? How about a rich Chinese-French Jewish woman? What if she is rich, drop-dead gorgeous and African-American? If it’s funny to kick her in the cunt, then let’s say that she comes back in the video store with a noose in one hand and a sign around her neck that says, “Some people call me Nigger,” and she has the same complaint as before about a video, would it still be funny then to kick her in the cunt? ---

Well I was just reading **lissener** ’s reason for disliking Schindler’s List. No **lissener** , Oskar Schindler did not save his people because he thought he could make a buck off of them. He was broke and destitute by the end of the war–having spent all of his money to save them, not including having been arrested himself twice. Yes, it’s unlikely that he was a perfect human being, but there’s no reason whatsoever to think that in this one act he wasn’t acting nobly, and there’s no reason whatsoever to think that Spielberg chose to portray Schindler for any reason other than because he thought the man deserved to be recognized. Dislike the movie all you want, but don’t _invent shit_ to justify it. ---

I haven’t seen **lissener’s** comments, but Schindler was a conniving war profiteer. **lissener** , a video store clerk with fantasies of kicking rich white women in their “cunts,” thinks _that_ distracts from a movie about a Nazi? Bizarre. I hear that **lissener’s** favorite movie is the musical version of _Lost Horizon_ and that he’s been unable to find a video of it in any format. Tsk. Tsk. ---
