# Jet Stream(s)

Why isn’t the jet stream one continuous stream around the whole hemisphere? Also, where do the winds go when they reach the end of one discrete segment?

I’m pretty sure they are a continuous stream around the earth, why do you think they’re not? 2 in the the northern hemisphere, 2 in the southern hemisphere.

The situation is less complex, I believe, in the southern hemisphere where there are fewer land masses.

The ‘grey bits’ are just a contoured representation of the blue arrows.
