Not according to the man himself, I think he said that the only thing both rings have in common is that they are both round or words to that effect.

Mentioned in the first reply as Fafnir’s Ring recovered by Sigurd.
The Ring in question is not actually named The Ring of the Nibelung.

Tolkien was more inspired by the Ring of Gyges which I also mentioned in that post.

No. I asked him for clarification. He said any jewelry is wanted. Non-magic is fine.

As stated before, not true. The necklace that plays a pivotable role in the movie _Titanic_ qualifies, for example.

…and this was the first. 🙂

In the film _The Abyss_, the titanium wedding ring worn by Bud Brigman (Ed Harris) serves as a plot point, as it prevents his hand from being crushed when he keeps an emergency door on the drilling rig from closing.

Julian May’s _Saga of the Exiles_ includes a range of potent torcs, some of which confer psychic powers on the wearer. Others are just tools for enslavement. The most powerful are the Golden Torcs, which amplify the wearer’s ‘metapsychic’ powers significantly.

Torcs turn up in a few other fictional contexts, including the _Thunderbolt Jaxon_ comics, which also describe Thor’s Magic Belt.

This last artefact also turns up in the Marvel universe, where it doubles the strength of the wearer ( a characteristic it shares with the original mythological belt, apparently).

Is a belt jewellery? Depends how ornate it is, I expect.

I have not seen _A Christmas Story_. Question for those who have:

Was the “secret decoder pin” ornate enough to qualify as jewelry? Might a small child wear one simply as a decoration?

As far as I can remember, Ralphie didn’t wear it as a pin in the movie; we only see it when he opens it up (after it _finally_ arrives in the mail), and as he uses it to decode Annie’s secret message, which led to his profound disappointment: the message was “be sure to drink your Ovaltine.”

In these two screenshots from the film, it does look like there is a pin on the back of the thing (in the lower picture, right under his finger, and above “1940”).

_If_ (big “if”) a belt buckle can be considered jewelry, then we have yet another lousy cartoon with **Sinbad the Sailor** , who pulls his belt really tight and instead of passing out like I would he becomes super strong and fences with multiple pirates at once. With Salty the Parrot by his side, they are a fearless crew.

Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn books feature a complex metal-based magic system, one aspect of which involves spikes inserted into a living body. Without getting into spoilers, the hero of the first trilogy, Vin, has a copper earring given to her by her mother that ends up having a major impact on the story.
