I am curious. For those in the USA if such a scandal hit an American broadcaster/interviewer would the fact that he was born overseas to Iranian parents be brought to the foreground? I am not saying it should (my goodness, my sister in law was raised as half Persian.) I keep thinking that the spin in the USA would be that he is a “creepy foreigner” I am glad we acknowledge him as our own Canadian creep, and keep ethnicities out of the dialogue. (For whatever that’s worth.)

If “Terry Gross-meshi” of NPR’s “Fresh Air Q” 😉 was busted for something like this, it would be massive, massive tabloid fodder. Would his/her “foreign-ness” be spotlighted?
Dude (said in a non-gender way) EVERY angle would be spotlighted!!!
This would be \*especially \*yucky because of the political football that NPR is between Liberals and Conservatives. You can bet that Republicans - who point to NPR as an agent for the Liberal Agenda and proof that the Center for Public Broadcasting should be unfunded - would milk a scandal like that for all it was worth. I don’t say that in an anti-Republican way; just acknowledging the reality of the scenario.

I have seen derogatory comments about immigrants and/or Muslims in user comments, but not in any mainstream articles. There will always be a few stupid people/trolls who leave comments like that.

They’re using guest hosts for now. I think, until they find a new one or something.
The show is only one hour for the next few days, but will go back to its hour-and-a-half length soon.
Some segments are repeated, some new.
I don’t think they’ll ever repeat a show that had Jian on it.

Well, the remarks about NPR all ring true for the CBC, I’m afraid. Our right leaning, in power, party has long been pushing for defunding the broadcaster. They’ve been slashing budgets since they came to power.
And they’ll definitely make hay with this development, I’m certain. Our tax dollars will pay for all of the extra legal fees, (and they will likely stretch to millions) plus any large payouts that are required. It sounds like they could be sued by a lot of people for toxic workplace.
But I seriously doubt his Iranian heritage will be emphasized. In part because his family emigrated from England, and because well, it’s not very Canadian. Seems titch hateful, and slightly unbecoming, but mostly has no bearing on his acts.Too many immigrants here for that to fly, I expect.

Sigh. Let’s kill this hijack - the original comment was to ‘leave book-burning to the Nazis’. Meaning, book-burning out of hatred of the authour is an inherently bad thing to do, beneath people - the sort of tactic that sould be _left_ to people like Nazis. Not that anyone who does it _is_, in fact, a Nazi.
There is room to debate as to whether the premise is correct (that is, whether book-burning is or is not a bad thing inherently), but it isn’t an insult, and it isn’t stating that anyone is a Nazi.
