I just read the Cicconne blog post.
Ghomeshi’s smart, successful, charming on-air, and not bad looking; amazing he is so completely awkward even by the admission of his supporters and a total creep with women even by his supposed friend who wrote the open FB letter. I think it’s safe to say his career has reached its apogee and is in descent mode.
(Also tends to date way out of his age group- likes 20-somethings, but, he’s hardly unique in that and if that’s a neurosis then most successful single middle aged men probably have it.)

I find it almost beyond belief that people are acting so shocked and blindsided at the allegations. I had this guy pegged as a slimy Svengali a mile away and the news didn’t seem the least bit unbelievable to me.
I also think many of his “fans” coming out of the woodwork include many people who had never paid any attention to him before but are now taking up his cause just to annoy feminists…

He has a serious issues with many different women, it’s quite wonderful that they have all came publicly forward as this will make it VERY difficult for any other woman to be abused by him again.

Well, from my standpoint, my only knowledge of him was as the host of _Q_, a show I enjoyed on NPR and he seemed a very personable and interesting host. Hell, I didn’t even know how to spell his name or what he looked like until last week (when looking him up for a post I was going to make in the Canadian accent thread.) So, yes, this did seem quite surprising to me, as I would not have pegged him as a creeper only knowing his radio persona and voice. Things are not looking so good for him right now–I want to withhold an opinion until I hear more, but he certainly seems like a slimeball (and more) to me the way things are coming out. I find it rather unlikely that eight separate women are just making shit up for the hell of it.

Ummm if you knew then why didn’t YOU blow the whistle that Jian engaged in multiple acts of non-consensual violent sex…? :dubious:

I had no idea he was into anything quite like this. I just could never abide his show for an undetermined reason (maybe men are better at judging creepy guys than women are?), and that unconfirmed “xojane” article floating around the internet a few years ago didn’t help. I once called him one of the top annoying Canadians on this board and got flamed for my efforts. 😛

If somebody beat you and gagged you with his penis til you almost vomited, WHY THE FECK DID YOU GO OUT WITH HIM AGAIN? Is he a big enough celeb to qualify as “starfucking”? And even then I don’t understand the appeal.

For a relationship with a celebrity, it does present itself as a possibility?
And I don’t consider a single sexual encounter a “relationship”. At this point she wasn’t remotely invested enough to not be able to walk away.
Any idea if most abusive relationships _begin_ with an abusive encounter? I honestly don’t know.
