My only regret is that the parade name wasn’t changed earlier. It’s only been the last couple of years that Inhofe hasn’t shown up. I hope his kids and grandkids hate him for ruining the HOLIDAYS for them. Here is the news channel site. You can see from the comments section how the grandstanding plays out with our [del]morons[/del] populace. The same group that through ballot initiatives expressed the state’s anti, -muslim, -foreigner, -immigrant, -education, -obama attitudes. [various pit, election, GD threads also]. Why is it that Catholicism gets bashed so fervently on these boards by the Doper atheists? I’d wager that if I did a search of threads that dealt with knocking down religion, Catholicism would far outnumber any other faith. Why not hate on all of them? Where is the outcry against: Islam: 1.5 billion Hinduism: 900 million Chinese traditional religion: 394 million Buddhism: 376 million primal-indigenous: 300 million African Traditional & Diasporic: 100 million Sikhism: 23 million Juche: 19 million Spiritism: 15 million Judaism: 14 million Baha’i: 7 million Jainism: 4.2 million Shinto: 4 million Cao Dai: 4 million Zoroastrianism: 2.6 million Tenrikyo: 2 million Neo-Paganism: 1 million Unitarian-Universalism: 800 thousand Rastafarianism: 600 thousand If any of the aforementioned faiths decided to have a spiritual parade would you break out the pitchforks and have them change the name of their holiday? And another question: do any of the atheists on this board celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day or Valentines Day? You do realize that both of those holidays are based on members of the Catholic clergy, right? Tell you what, while I’m celebrating my faith this season have another humdrum day and take a break from the Catholic bashing. ---

Nobody cares if Christians have a “Christmas parade.” Nobody has demanded they they change the word. If a _municipality_ was to have a publicly funded partade in the name of one of those other religions, conservative Christians would have embolisms. Nobody even mentioned in this thread until you did. We were talking about James Inhofe, who is a devout numbskull and _a Presbyterian_. There was some complaining about Christians who depict themselves as a persecuted majority, which Inhofe was doing. I find that crap very annoying myself. ---

If you’re that upset about it, I suggest you lobby to have all references to Santa, Rudolph, Frosty and the elves stricken from the season as well. ---

You’re the first one to mention the Catholics. Currently tending Atheist/Agnostic, I was raised Catholic in the Bible Belt. I guaran-damn-tee you that 99% of the “War Against Christmas” crowd are Jack-Chick-Reading, Catholic-Hating, Bible-Thumping Fundamentalists. In fact, their direct spiritual ancestors are the dour Puritans of New England–who refused to celebrate Christmas because they saw the Pagan roots of the “Popish” holiday. Sure they do - they have as much right to demand such as you have to demand that the government not do such. Considering that “Christmas tree” is a term in common use and that the majority of the country is Christian, they may have more pull with a legislator than you do in this case. There is no establishment issue with the term “Christmas tree” whether you use it, a department store uses it, or a school does. That seems to be fairly well settled law. ---
