[/QUOTE] And in case I wasn’t clear- I watched the entire game, Kimmell’s bit and all. Heard all of his comments and personally didn’t raise an eyebrow at any of them. Now, **Kimmell** claims insulting Jerry Jones for example could cost a network a contract, and clearly implies things like that are why he caught flak from ESPN for his Monday night comments, that the league doesn’t want you insulting them or their talent. I find that hard to believe, but all I can go on is Kimmell’s word, he would know better than me right? So I says, assuming Kimmell is correct, what’s wrong with a network not wanting to endanger their contract, or additionally advertisers, whatever. Now tell me the error of my post. If you’re basing it solely on me thinking he insulted Jerry Jones Monday night, and got Fox Sunday and ESPN Monday confused, well you got me. ---

Jimmy Kimmel will always get a pass from me after he asked Joe Theismann how his leg was last season. I’m sad about this because he was the only celeb in the booth who I ever cared to listen to. He was hysterical AND knew his football pretty well. ---

I don’t feel like I am in a position to adequately judge whether or not television sports journalism is limited in what they can or cannot say. But, what I can say for sure after watching some of Monday’s football game, and reading over the comments that were quoted in the article is that Kimmel just wasn’t funny in that booth during that game. Joke after joke fell like a lead balloon. The whole bit about gambling was just embarrassing, only saved by Kornheiser’s “I make his best for him!” which was funny. Proving that it wasn’t the topic that lacked humor, but delivery, timing and content. I don’t think there is anything specifically wrong with having guys in the booth who don’t have extensive sports resumes. Dennis Miller did a fun job, in my mind. But, if you are there I think you need to be either funny or relevant. Kimmel was neither. What I don’t get is why the network made a big deal out of saying he was banned? It seems to me this garners more publicity for both MNF and Kimmel’s late night talk show. So, all of this hot air is probably less about tasteless jokes and bannings, and more about a little free advertising for Jimmy Kimmel Live. pat ---

I can see how some might confuse The Man Show with MAXIM magazine and all that ilk, but there was a subtle difference. I think its more accurate to call TMS a _satire_ of stuff like MAXIM. Beer? TMS had a guy who could drink two steins in (literally) three seconds. Girls in bikins? TMS promised to have every show end with girls bouncing on trampolines … and they did. Secretly think feminism is ever-so-slightly annoying? They found a female immigrant with mediocre English to publicly campaign against the “suffrage” of women. It was tasteless on so many levels, and _truly_ tasteless, not in that nudge-nudge, wink-wink kind of way that MAXIM is, where they clearly aren’t going far enough to really piss off anyone’s girlfriend. Even if she was an actress, it was pretty effin’ funny. I’m surprised they got away with it. Kimmel and Corolla were the keys to the show’s success though, not the format. Kimmel said weary, cynical things about how much he hated his wife and how his kid was a pain in the ass, and you believed it. And when Corolla moaned that he couldn’t get laid because he was ugly and annoying, well, you believed _that_ too. ---
