Jimmy Kimmel had a running joke that he had Matt Damon as a guest for the night, but had to bump him because the show ran out of time. It went on long enough that Damon got involved in setting up some of the gags.

The OP is suggesting a similar gag where Kimmel pretends that Trump is the guest who keeps getting bumped.
