For me, too, it was always “the Joker got away.” The alternatives offered in this thread don’t seem to work as well, IMHO. In Australia, the only version I know of was _Jingle bells, Batman smells, Robin runs away_ And then in my dad’s day it took a sharp left turn into… _Father Christmas lost his whiskers smoking Craven A (hey!)_ After that brand died, we all changed to _Wonder Woman lost her bosom flying TAA_ IDK if anyone came up with any more versions once Trans-Australian Airlines became likewise defunct… ---

I learned it as “Listerine”, but my cousin who learned it the same school year but in the Atlanta area learned it as gasoline. ---
