Yet another very solid show! It’s interesting to see the interaction of the Girardi family, especially when more of Luke is revealed through it. What a great job by all the cast tonight, too. [snark] At least we didn’t have to hear Iris’ voice too much, eh? 😉 [/snark] Joan stiffed Pizzadelivery G-D on the tip! Good grief! Poor Joan, she’s really feeling left out, especially in the love department - even Luke has Glynnis (geeze, those two are all kissy face all the time!), and I’m with Joan, “A” is just -wrong- for Adam! And wow, what about that artwork Adam turned in for Mrs. Girardi after she told him that he hadn’t done the assignment–it was scary and maybe even a bit psycho, although I think he was more angry at Mrs. G. for “dissing” his earlier work. I’m hoping that Casper is going to turn up some time in the future; even jump-rope G-D told Joan that she hadn’t lost her connection to Casper (or to Adam, for that matter, thank God!), so I’m thinking that we will see her again. I’m glad too that Will made that connection with Luke. ---

I was kind of ‘meh’ about the Joan storyline, although I liked the actress who played Casper and I hope we see her again. And Luke/Glynnis does nothing for me. He needs to get with Grace. (I never saw Grace smile so much as she did when Casper & Joan were skipping rope in gym class). What I liked about the episode (and last week, too) is how they are finally creating some depth to Luke. Last week it was his relationship with Kevin, and tonight with his dad. He’s getting much more interesting than your cartoonish science geek that he was at first. Speaking of Kevin, what a louse! I can appreciate that he felt attractive and ‘normal’ when that writer hit on him, but I’m mad at him for hurting his girlfriend/boss. I hope they can smooth things over. None of the couples I want together are staying together! Except the Girardi parents. If they split I’ll cry. ---

I liked the fact that Joan doesn’t know what happened to Karen. It’s okay not to resolve everything, every time. I was glad to see Luke get some more screen time as well. **NoClueBoy** , you’re not the only one. I got a phone call from a friend about 15 minutes into the show and wound up missing the rest of it. By the way, _Joan of Arcadia_ was the cover story of the this week’s local paper’s television section. We’ve been promised a cliff hanger ending for this season, possibly involving Joan telling someone about God talking to her. If that’s the case, my money’s on it slipping out while she’s talking to Grace. I figure they’re bound to do more with Grace’s father being a rabbi. I got a kick out of the whole exchange between Grace and guitar-playing-God at the beginning of the episode. I’ve heard worse singers and players, and I liked the idea of God riffing on “What If God Was One Of Us?” CJ ---

Sorry, it is 2/20, not 2/6. Maybe a mod can fix it? This is the first episode where I didn’t feel sorry for Kevin. He was acting like a jerk, and if this is the way he was before the accident, no wonder Luke blew up at him. (Thank you, TWoP recaps.) I didn’t hear Iris’ voice that much, but it wasn’t that grating to me. Maybe I need to get the full cumulative effect? Poor Luke. He’s so proud of his dad. I thought he was going to help his dad go through the cases and help him solve one. Once again, I had to grab the tissues during this show, when he told Will he became a scientist because of him. I didn’t like the unresolved ending. I can’t see where Casper actually got anything beneficial out of being in school for one(?) day. Price is such an arrogant ass, too. I hope we find out what happens to Casper in a later episode. I don’t want Joan to tell anyone she can talk to God. To me, that would be giving away an element of the show, and she would be mobbed by religious psychos, you know, the kind that go see the Virgin Mary in a piece of toast. I loved how she stiffed Pizza Delivery God, but I think she’s getting a bit too snippy with him, calling him a jerk and telling Bird Mascot God to “bite me.” I’m no Xian, but even I cringed a bit at that. (Pizza Delivery Guy was That Guy!) Adam’s art was a bit disturbing. And since when does he have a crush on Helen? I can see where he views her as a substitute mom, but not as a crush. Did anyone find the park scenes a bit, well, racist? They were calling Joan “Snow White” and “Princess.” It would seem to me, if the roles were reversed, that Joan was black and the jump-ropers were white, that such racial name calling would be condemned. ---

My biggest complaint about this show is the way the chemistry class and Luke are written. It’s truly horrible. Smart people, "tough"subjects so OBVIOUSLY written by people who have never studied them, and don’t understand what they are. Isn’t the first rule of writing NOT to write about what you know nothing about? The clichéd phrases, the way that (even within a single episode) the chemistry lectures switch from DNA to water to acids and bases to god only know what. Not a single thing in that class could conceivably teach anything. I truly hope they get better writers for the “science” side of the show, because the more they develop Luke (and even Glynnis) the more irritated I get. And get rid of that wacko teacher. She spouts nonsense, and is just annoying to watch. That said, I do enjoy the show more than I thought I would. I’ve seen a few episodes now, and the plots are interesting, although you gotta wonder how far they’ll be able to take it without SOME consequence for Joan. Frankly, she’s acting odd, and if I was her friend or parent I’d force her to see a phsychiatrist or something! ---

I also laughed when she stiffed the surpreme being pizza delivery boy. Was sort of glad to see Casper not be invited to live with the Girardi’s, or become prom queen or some such usual network nonsense. Although I agree it would be good to see her again on the show. By the way, I taped Letterman the other day - I almost never watch his show - to see the interview with Amber (Joan). I was blow away with how literate and together she is. That girl has some smarts, and some pretty solid reality under her feet. Considering she comes from an acting family, I was pretty amazed. (For those who don’t know, her father starred in West Side Story). Amber used to be on General Hospital, and when it came time to re-up her contract, her father (now also her manager and sometimes cameo performer on Joan of Arcadia) said forget it. At the time, it seemed sort of stupid to give up a regular acting gig at her age. Guess her father knew his daughter had better things in store.
