One of the unaccented lines spoken by (O)Ryan as he came out of the woods with Adam, " … I was lost too."
I may have missed something, but I think that was the line.
Here’s my transcript from my DVR. Joan hears voices…
VOICES
Hello! Hello! Anybody!?
JOAN
Adam!
ADAM
Jane!
JOAN
Adam!
ADAM
Oh, Jane! [they greet and hug] Hey.
JOAN
What happened? Are you okay?
ADAM
I’m okay. I’m okay. I’m okay. Yeah, Ry… Ryan helped me out.
RYAN
I was lost too. Never should have been out here.
ADAM’S DAD
Adam!
ADAM
Dad?
ADAM’s DAD
Adam!
ADAM
Dad! [they hug and laugh] I’m okay. I’m okay.
ADAM’S DAD
My son! My son.
ADAM
Grace!
GRACE
Adam! [they hug]
RYAN
So, you’re Joan!
JOAN
Oh, yeah.
RYAN
I was wondering why he wanted me to go hiking on a day like this.
JOAN
What? Who?
[Ryan and Ranger God glare at one another knowingly, as lightning highlights their faces. Joan observes them both.]
JOAN
Who are you?
RYAN
Ryan Hunter. See you around, Joan. [walks away]
[Joan looks stunned and pensive. Sympath for the Devil begins playing. Cut to commercial.]
I don’t know if Ryan is Satan or not it is all a guessing game… However it seems to be perfect for the series… due to the fact that Joans mother is having some doubts with forgiveness. Watching the previews for next week it seems that she will have a big part in this, as well as this Ryan character… who I personally believe could be Satan… Although my mother has her ideas… One being he is the Son of God… also that the name Ryan Hunter has a lot to do with the character.
So needless to say it seems we will all have to tune in to next weeks episode.
First a defense of Luke:
I had a friend who was allergic to pot and had a very similar reaction to it.
Well, Mrs. ddgryphon didn’t recognize the song, nor did she notice the red hood on Ryan – she must’ve been having a brain dead moment.
In all the best ep of the season in many ways.
Oh, and just a throw in, Helen did forgive him, just not to his face. Forgiveness is as much about those who forgive as it is about those who ask it.
“Forgive US OUR TRESSPASSES as WE FORGIVE THOSE who TRESSPASS AGAINST US.”
It’s for everybody.
Adam thinks Ryan is someone who was also lost in the woods. Some other “he” told him go hiking. I think there are three possibilities with Ryan:
A) Old Testament Satan – an obedient servant of God who task to serve as an adversary to humans.
B) A human who takes orders from God but is now rebelling. God told him to hike.
C) A human who takes orders from Satan (not the Old Testament version).
I was going to add a human with the role of Old Testament Satan but that isn’t a role that I could see God giving to a human. He’s definitely not the rebel version of Satan because rebel-Satan doesn’t follow orders. My first impression was that it was God who told him to hike. But now I think his looking at God when he said that was simply misdirection for Joan and the viewers. I vote possibility C.
This ep. had a lot of good stuff in it. The getting high scenes were hilarious; the various Gods were used well–I liked the addition of Knitting God; Helen’s scenes with the rapist and with her son were strongly played; Grace’s unsmiling visage on the cell phone was a nice touch; I felt bad for Adam and his job loss.
I thought the use of the Rolling Stones song was much too obvious, but it whetted my appetite for more. I’m very curious about next week’s ep.
My husband didn’t recognize the tune, so he didn’t get the import of that scene. I bet he’s not alone.
I think one telling point that Ryan wasn’t someone that Adam asked to go hunting is he knew Joan’s correct name. If he knew of Joan form Adam he would have called her “Jane” as Adam does. So Ryan must have gotten her name from someone else.
That’s possible, but I don’t think Adam calls her “Jane” to other casual acquaintances. I think he uses that as a personal term of endearment. Just as I would tell someone I met about my wife, but wouldn’t identify her as “Honey”.
Psst, Liberal…
There’s no “g” in my user name.
Yikes! A thousand apologies, Ivylass.
If the TV Tome.com entry for the show is correct, it looks like “A” or “B” is the answer.
emphasis mine
I can’t think of any reason for him to be deceptive…
