Job Termination Notice

Start by talking to your boss. Let him now that you are unable to do the 10 to 11 hour work days. Do not refuse to work that givess your boss a cause to fire you. But just let him know that your health will not let you continue, you wish you could and you are sorry but your health will not allow it. Never mention quiting, let him bring up your leaving. See how he takes it. He may scream and yell just keep telling him you wish you could but. And if he fires you you may have a unjust termination so you canstill get UE.

If he orders you to work Friday or face firing because of failure to follow instructions, then show up to work on Friday. After 8 hours call you boss and tell him you are sorry but you need to leave because you do not feel well.

I agree 100% and what I say is probably just supplementing your comment, but maybe not. Yes, and yes. It is bullshit that the employer can show you to the door on Friday at 5pm leaving you crying in your beer at 7pm wondering how in the hell you are going to pay the bills, while when the coin is reversed, you are expected to provide him time to find a replacement. Yes, it sucks balls.

However, I would strongly suggest following this custom at all times in your adult life for several reasons:

  1. It’s a very small world and leaving without notice may very well come back to haunt you.

  2. It doesn’t matter what your grievance is with the company. After you leave, the story will get spun so that you seem like a petty, petulant little asshole who screwed over the whole company including fellow employees. And you won’t be there to correct the story.

  3. Many years later, you may look back and realize that suddenly leaving was an overreaction. It was anger that built up over many years that should have been handled piecemeal and that the stories that got told about you were mostly true, but for different reasons.

So suck it up. Type a professional resignation letter. When asked if there is anything the company could have done to improve or keep you, lie your ass off and tell them that they offered you a wonderful opportunity and that it’s just time to move on. Finish your projects and be gracious to your fellow employees.

Then drink yourself silly, but start again bright and early the next morning for the next chapter in your life.
