I just thought of another job that is specifically gender assigned: mikveh attendant. So much so that the egalitarian mikveh outside of Boston is hiring on several transgender attendants at the moment.
:eek::eek:
I can’t believe those are kosher. Are transgendered people for mikves all the way changed to female, or are they a little of both, so to speak, and can double dip (so to speak) during men’s times?
I’m not sure what you’re asking here. There are transgender people on both sides of the gender spectrum, and transgender people on both sides of the gender spectrum who use the mikveh, so accordingly, there are transgender attendants for their comfort and security, who are there to proclaim their toivel to be complete.
I’ll just point out Principal Seymour Skinner on the Simpsons, and HR Rep Toby Flenderson on the Office. Obviously, these are fictional, but the writers didn’t think it was odd to put men in those positions.
In the history of education, having females in the role of principal is relatively new. There may be a few exceptions, but recent trends are not enough to say that elementary school principals are “traditionally” female.
In the school year 2007-2008, 59% of elementary school principals were female. Cite. The 50% mark was reached somewhere in the 1990s or after the turn of the century.
