Will it make you feel good to have such fear from your children instead of love? To have them be scared, walking on eggshells 24/7? Everytime you quote the Old Testament, I’m going to come right back at you with LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF, because THAT IS THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT. And don’t you forget it. To wrap up, I’d like to say what I can’t say in great debates: It makes me fucking nauseous to think of you in charge of small children. I trust you will successfully make your children fearful, dangerously submissive, a girl child will most likely be susceptible to abusive relationships, and I GOD DAMN GUARANTEE YOU that you will drive them away from the teachings of Jesus Christ faster than you can say DYSFUNCTIONAL. In my job as a prison physician I see plenty of the inmates who were beaten with leather belts and other implements quite regularly by their parents and grandparents. It didn’t seem to keep this subset of the population on the straight and narrow. Some it certainly desensitized to violence. One guy here is serving 30 years for shaking his daughter to death. ---

I was raised in a Pentecosal, Bible-thumping, tounge-talking, faith-healing church. I got whipped when I acted up. Soundly. I remember getting bruises on my ass and legs. I lived in fear of my dad. And it was considered Biblically supported, even demanded, that that be so. I’m 33 and still working on the resentment. Guess what, joe and jersy, Proverbs 22:6 is wrong. I was “trained in the way”. Belts. _shudder_ At least now they make them elegantly simple. In the ‘70s they could be monstrous affairs, 4 inches wide, half inch thick, and with a buckle so substantial it had a second tang. Probably didn’t effect me much one way or the other, but it _certainly_ didn’t keep me from being a wise-ass. ---

Non, now, **Jarbaby** , you must remember that **Joe\_Cool** and his lovely consort are Justified and Sanctified Lambs of God [sup]TM[/sup] and therefore far above the no doubt tainted moral standards of mere unwashed sinners like us. Because they are the anointed of the Lord, they can whip the love of Jesus into their offspring and teach them that the fear of God-as represented by their parents-- is the highest joy. Besides whipping your kids until they have bloody welts is the merest zephyr of love comapared to the punishment that they ought to mete out to disobedient children, to wit, stoning to death. I’ve been beaten with belts, fists, a leather golf bag strap, the obligatory wooden spoon, and once, and aerosol can. It wasn’t fun. My baby (8) is writing sentences tonight, as punishment for not following the rules. As a parent, I’ve been just as pissed at him as any parent can get at their child, but a beating just isn’t gonna happen at my house.
