being a loud-mouthed, drug crazed, slapstick comic never made me laugh. Fithy,moronic, one-dimensional character with no acting talent didn’t deserve the money he was making or poon he was getting. Falling down is not funny anymore. Yet some people consider him a genius, TV special are made about him. In my book, his comedy is right up there with Howie Mandell’s.He’s dead and i’m glad. ---

dp, Any valid poit you have is gonna be lost in your diatribe, as well as your self-professed racism. However, for those who want to offer an opinion that is lucid, I offer the following. John Belushi is not my personal cup of tea. I found a few of his skits funny (the bit with Joe Cocker sill makes me laugh and cringe), but as a rule, I find him vastly overrated. But then, who is not overrated? Nothing is as good as we think (or remember). But, my god, he is better than his brother! Sir Rhosis ---

I rather enjoyed his performance in _Continental Divide_ and I still crack up over _The Blues Brothers_ and _Animal House_. I was never a fan of SNL, even in the beginning. But his death was a tragedy and a waste. ---

[/quote] You are probably trying to paraphrase _Dean Wormser_ in _Animal House_: “Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go throught life.” Belushi was a riot to any male between the age of 10 and 35. Of course, it helped if you were still single at 35. Over the top? Of course. Bordering on the obscene/grotesque sometimes? Of course. Funny? Musthavebeen to a lot of people cause he evidently didn’t get fame and fortune from posters with your viewpoint. And he had fame and fortune. Belushi 1, **dp** 0 ---

Again, it’s all about **context**. The 70’s were a different time, different mores, different attitudes. The Reagan Revolution had not yet been inflicted upon the nation, drug use was much more prevalent and accepted, and the style of in-your-face comedy that SNL espoused in those days (rather than the bland parodies they deliver today) was quite novel and edgy for the time. John Belushi could not get hired by SNL, or anyone else, if he appeared today for the first time. He’s also got that Hendrix/Dean/Monroe/Joplin thing going for him… he never had a chance to show us how bad he could be (and Continental Divide was pretty bad.) As for James Belushi… well, he’s got a marketable last name. ---

Some classic Belushi bits to challenge the OP: His vignettes as Beethoven with Glida as Mrs. Beethoven, particularly when he breaks from a fugue into a Ray Charles number. Dueling Brandos. His commentary on March going in like one thing and out like something else in different countries. And the fact that he could belt a blues toon pretty good for a white guy. If he doesn’t appeal to you dp, that’s personal taste for you. And, while there were always a few misses, yeah, he did entertain me. Given a choice, I’d rather spend my time watching him than reading another post by you. ---

I admit, I may be the only college student who didn’t like Animal House (partially because it’s not much fun when _everybody_ wants to be Bluto). But i love the Samurai skits. Laugh my ass off whenever I see one. ---
