I don’t think it’s possible to cleanly separate his current weirdness from his last couple years of neurological crises. If Oliver Sacks were still alive, Fetterman could be the subject of a new book, _The Man Who Passed Out as an Ordinary Guy and Woke Up as a Fucking Asshole._ ---

Veering way off topic: I once saw a parody of “The Man Who Mistook….” that was called “The Man Who Mistook His Ass For A Hole In The Ground.” I liked Dr. Harold Klawans’ books a lot better. He was lesser known, lived in the Chicago area, and died too soon in the late 1990s. He subspecialized in Parkinson’s but did do overall neurology. My own favorite story from him was when his daughter, upon learning of Jerzy Kosinski’s suicide, said, “Dad! He had one of your diseases!” (I don’t think this was ever officially confirmed, but there was a rumor that his suicide was due to finding out that he had ALS.) Let’s resume our regularly scheduled programming. ---

Fetterman had a significant stroke during his campaign, and was later hospitalized for treatment-refractory depression. You’re correct on both counts. ---

He doesn’t have to change parties. By consistently voting with Republicans, it doesn’t matter what letter is behind his name, he is helping Republicans have a majority. ---
