This came up in [another thread](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=800377). It’s a kids song, just repeating a few lines over and over again as far as I know. I think every kid in the 60s knew this from school or camp or field trips on the bus, at least for me growing up in the Midlantic region. Pretty sure my kids knew it growing up in the 80s and 90s too. Apparently it’s not as universal as I thought, so have you heard this song? When were you a kid and where did you live then? Bonus points if your name is John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt. The lyrics (the only ones I know about): _John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt, His name is my name too. Yes, I know it and it was famous enough that it was on at least 3 or 4 VHS tapes for kids I had growing up. I was a kid in the 90s and into the 00s and I lived in MN. ---

I’ve heard it on TV shows but I’ve never sung it myself and I don’t remember my friends, classmates, or siblings singing it. I grew up in upstate New York in the 1970s. ---

I know it, I knew it growing up in the 70s - 80s. It’s been on VHS tapes, on cassettes, but most importantly it was on Fred and Barney Meet the Schmoo. ---

I did not know it as a kid, but our best friends have a 9 year old and his mother sang it to him all the time - I think it was on a video she had. ---

Sure. I didn’t know it until maybe 15 years or so ago when my kids were little. It was on a VHS tape or something with other goofy kids stuff. ---

I’ve heard it in two places. It was in an ad for a record of a bunch of kid’s songs–the only other one of which I remember is “I am a pretty little Dutch girl/As pretty as pretty can be…” The other place was on an episode of Happy Days. Howard was singing it with a bunch of the teenagers, and Marion felt left out. ---

Also, I myself frequently rendered the name “Jinglebooty Smith” and I’m pretty sure that was only me doing that.
