John Kerry tries to organize support for Alito filibuster: Help or hurt in '08?

Di Fi is Dan White’s third great crime, the one that keeps on giving…

She was one of the people put forward by Harry Reid as an acceptable candidate for SCOTUS. While their reaction wouldn’t be as warm as all that, I doubt the Dems would be anywhere near as hostile to her as they are to Alito.

ALERTALERTALERTALERTUNSUPPORTED REFERENCE, PIT RISK:HIGH
For those dopers not privy to the tale, Diane Feinstein was nothing but a two bit president of the sf board of supervisors (a job that rotated monthly). Dan white shot Harvey Milk and George Moscone (myor) Dianne succeeded to the Mayoralty and a star was born…

Feinstein may have her faults like any politician, but regardless of the details of her rise to power, she’s done well for CA and is a far cry better than many of her fellow Congresscritters. She went to Stanford, so she’s no slouch in the cranium department, and is usually a thoughtful, deliberate Senator. I may disagree with a lot of her positions on social programs, and I doubt her sincerity in all this Alito business, but she’s hardly worthy of the derision you seem to hold her in. She plays politics-- big deal, who doesn’t?

. Feinstein is very well respected in CA. Maybe the most respected pol from that state. She could squash Sheehan with her little toe.

I’m not real objective about Di Fi–can’t stand her. She is, of course, in no serious peril from a primary challenge (right now…)

it might help concentrate her mind on the future, tho. I can see a day, like in six years, when warren beatty will get a phone call from MoveOn.Org.

she serves interests that I detest. Left to her own devices, she would turn San Francisco into Manhattan. To America Dianne is their problem from California. To me, she’s a home town pain in the ass.

 How so?

. fellow Congresscritters
not in this teighborthood. Barbara Lee in Berkeley, Barbara “frichie” Boxer, even Nancy Pelosi, all have more balls that Dianne.

Actually, tho I just sneered at the SF Board of Supes, they are, in fact, a strikingly high functioning city council (compared with the city councils of my youth, the corrupt machine ridden tammany encrusted democratic party in NewYorkCity)

to startwith, no sky, just boxes full of office space. from one horizon to the other

a car-friendly, pedestrian and transit hostile, layout;( fortunately the hand of god took care of the central freeway for us,…)

A willingness to impose upon the community externalities of development that accrue because fortunate stakeholders (realestate interests, primarily) are leveraging the location value of their holdings for enormous present value, without establishing countervailing cash flow streams for the future servicing of the aforesaid externalities.

A fundamental disinclination to conform land use to the most beneficial general outcomes where amenities like breathing and seeing sky are counterposed to the immediate maximum gain of a stakeholder.

For a more detalied deconstructin, see the Internationol Hotel redevelopment struggle.

It’s just across from Frankie Coppola’s place (he’s the only guy in the world who could afford to be on the “wrong” side of a height limit…)

I see. Anyone who holds different political views from you has no balls. I really don’t know anything about Feinsein’s past in SF politics and I really don’t care. I judge her by what she’s done in the US Senate. If you don’t like her politics, fine. But I doubt it’s a lack of balls that is preventing her from aligning with your political ideas.

John Kerry for President.

Rah rah rah.

Prediction:

Alito will be sworn in during the State of the Union.

Why? That would be astonishingly arrogant even by the Bush Admin’s standards.

I don’t think it’ll happen either, but why would that be “arrogant”? I’d call it stupid. The SotU address is one thing, a swearing in cerimony is another thing entirely.

my choice of opprobrium was made advisedly–I believe she knows better than she votes, but she votes with an eye on her husband’s real estate interests and her “centrist” credentials.

Barbara Boxer, on the other hand, will take more chances.

does it not partake of an “in your face” quality.

I mean, where would you do it? Everyone is over at the sotu–I think the idea is it would be right there on the floor of congress…
