No, no, no.

It was [David Reivers](http://us.imdb.com/Name?Reivers,+David)everyone is afraid of.

IMDB even had to remove his photo so that in future episodes he wouldn’t be prematurely identified.

Am I the only one who thought the captain was completely lacking in charisma? In fact, beside Zoe and Jayne (hottieness not withstanding) not one member of the crew had anything To offer. I found the show to be pretty bland on the whole - the one saving grace, of course, was the bad guy gettiing kicked into the engine.
I think I’ll pass on the rest of the season, you all tell me if it gets interesting.

Give it a chance.
Hell, they might have more guys kicked into the engine than Star Trek had red shirts.

Creepy.

I think the surviving colonist _was_ a Reaver. They tortured teh rest of the crew to death while forcing him to watch, probably did a few other unspeakable things to him, all towards the ultimate goal of making him into another Reaver. Or leaving him such a ruined shell of a human that he loses the will to live and kills himself.

I have a theory that that’s how Reavers maintain their numbers. They turn people into Reavers, then leave them stranded somewhere, so they have to fight their way back to the Reaver ship. Those that live long enought to do this become crew. The rest just take a bunch of people with them when they die.

Sorta like a Faulkneresque version of “Invaders of the Body Snatchers” or Hunter S. Thompson’s view of the Republican party.

Notice that the buttons are sewn on the outside of his pants, which is how they would have done it during the period of western expansion. These days we sew buttons for braces on the inside of pants.

Sam Spade?

Gutman was in the Maltese Firefly. Er, Falcon.

Right, I jumped movies. That’s allowed, isn’t it? How about:

When I kick you in the jet engine, you’ll take it and you’ll like it.

And, unfortunately, my VCR won’t record off the stupid digital cable without my purchasing yet more devices. Which I will not do.

But, eh. At least it sounds good. Mayhaps I’ll catch it in a few years when they syndicate. 😉

**(carnivorousplant)** I think they matched Serenity’s rotation to the delerict. I think the star files was rotating in relation to both ships.

**(Ferrous)** Yeah? I didn’t notice that. But that would be really cool if they went to that much trouble for realism.
[/quote]
The hungry bush is correct. In the shot where the Firefly was easing up to dock with the derelict, the stars in the background were indeed spinning and yawing as if the two foreground vessels were rotating together. Definitely a cool throwaway detail.

I think I might watch the third episode, if only to see what terrible B-movie it resembles this week (last week being a paraphrased **Supernova** , a movie that super sucked. I can’t quite remember what movie had the plot of the pilot, but I know I’ve seen something very like it before, minus the space travel.)

Thus far, I don’t hate the show, but I don’t think much of it, either; the fact that the subplot about River is only thing that carried over from the pilot into the second episode does not bode well for the show’s ablity to keep continuity (Did anyone else watch “Glory Days”? Other than the leads’ ‘relationship’ it didn’t matter what order they aired episodes in. It was rather disconcerting.). I’ve never thought much of Nathan Fillion’s acting, so I’m rather surpised they cast him as the Captain. This isn’t even the type of show I’d watch because of an attractive cast (Adam Baldwin’s supposed to be the stud? no way!) so the only thing that really has caught my attention so far is the whole thing with River’s escape from that place, and Simon’s sacrifices for her…three strikes and you’re out is a fair policy, right? One more episode before I give up on it entirely then.

Sounds like a plan, \*\* elfkin \*\* . At least you’re giving it a fair trial.

Well, maybe Firefly doesn’t have so much in the way of continuity, but I personally have too short an attention span for continuity, anyway.

You do realize most new shows don’t create too much of a continuity in their first 10 shows. They are trying establish characters and relationships. It is also trying to establish a fan base. Think of shows like Pretender, X-Files, Farscape, Friends, etc. A lot of the first shows didn’t carry much outside of a premise to begin with but grew into a fairly strong overall story.

Remember, the killer continuity on “Buffy” didn’t kick in until the second season. From what I’ve heard, Joss Whedon is saving the tricky stuff on “Firefly” for around episode seven or eight. I’m willing to give it that long to hook me.
