BTW, per the OP, I only saw a pic from the movie, but, I instantly recognized JD.
Yeah, it’s obviously Johnny Depp. I don’t think it looks fake, but he has a distinctive (and very famous) face. It’s hard not to recognize him, even in heavy makeup.
The hair in the photo in that article looks like it came straight off of Max Headroom! 
Johnny Depp looks WAY younger than he really is, having him play an old man makes him look silly. Took me right out of the trailer the first time i saw it.
