Join us! Your musicial distinctiveness will be added to our own.[Last.fm and Pandora]

I figured I should post my Pandora profiles too. Take a look and (hopefully) enjoy.

Happy Folk
Dark Folk

Two sides of the same basic spectrum. None of it is actual folk music per se, but it’s all low fi stuff that has it roots in folk music.

80s Post Punk
Our Band Could Be Your Life

Two stations based on two basic genres of *good *music from the 80s. One is mainstream one is old school indy.

Indy Rock Radio

What the name says

Radiohead Radio

My first station. Seeded only with the band Radiohead.

Hip Hop Radio

Created when I was into hip hop. Mostly underground stuff.
I listen to Pandora almost exclusively on quick mix, so…a lot of these stations sound similar. But I try to keep them distinct.

Killed the link when it assumed my tastes.

Personal taste: Any shit recorded between 1870 and now, with a leaning toward stuff NOBODY likes. Yes, aggressively personal and self-destructive toward my eardrums, but you knew that if you knew anything about me, and, otherwise, fuck off.

ETA: Honest, I listened to a station for 25 minutes before I could be sure it was music and NOT inter-station noise. And it was both.

Based on the one song I listed to from your profile :p, I recommend that you try Blümchen (the German version of that one is better, but not YouTube) and/or Dune. Million Miles from Home is one of my favorite songs, and yes, Dune is named after the book.

Valete,
Vox Imperatoris

ETA: They seemed like the most similar, i.e. more than not at all.

What song did you listen to?

Not one of MINE, THAT’S for sure. (says someone who has ignored all of those songs.)

I recently put Pandora on my iPhone. I love it. I just started with it and have already discovered some great new bands/songs.

Shakedown! by theSTART. They’re not very similar (I was just thinking female artists/less poppy), but eh, I mainly just wanted to post some music videos.

That *would *be rather difficult, since you haven’t posted a Last.fm profile.

Valete,
Vox Imperatoris

ETA: And I got Blümchen from Last.fm and Dune from Pandora (indirectly, though—someone covered Million Miles from Home).

Heh. That’s not a favorite song of mine at all (though my favorit of that band), but I will listen to the songs you have recced. I am pretty open minded whn it comes to music.

Vox, you can play the anachronistic balls against her, but her Godliness protects her. Er, besides her preternatural, loveliness, which I can, beside the Gods, ignore.

Meaning, of course, Psycat!! May I say hello?

Grrrr. And I made a station yesterday… And I hit ‘play now’ today… And nothing. Yes, I have javascript enabled. Grrrr.

This happened to me before, but for the life of me I can’t remember how I fixed it. Do you have a firewall? If so, try making your computer a DMZ (forwards every single port at the same time), just to see if that is the problem.

Valete,
Vox Imperatoris

Has someone spiked the eggnog??

Hi dropzone. I added you as a friend.

Nope, that’s not it. It works just fine on Internet Explorer, but won’t ‘play’ on Opera… Although it played when I first made the station. The ‘play station’ button just doesn’t seem to run the javascript.

Ah, that would be because Opera is not supported. Can’t help you there. I used to use Opera, but I gave up and switched to Firefox because I like things to work.

whee!

last.fm is pretty cool, but I’m not sure it’s terribly accurate about my listening habits. often they seem to emphasize too much what i’m playing during bookkeeping/organizing activities. one of my ‘top artists’ is someone i don’t even recognize…

I just realized that you can move songs from one station to another. I’ve been making extra stations and adding the songs I like to one central station. Hurrah for 17 pages of Thumb-ups and 65 pages of Thumb-downs!

I played with Pandora a long time ago and last.fm around that same time. I had a profile with nothing much in it, but here it is now that I’ve restarted it.

We’re on last.fm and Pandora, but haven’t updated in a while. I gotta figure this stuff out. Oh, yeah, and Facebook, too. I’m a little behind… :o

Here’s my Last.fm profile, feel free to “friend” me if you want to.

I’m a dissident, in that I prefer Yahoo Music! Radio. Don’t kill me please, and it is going through some shitty changes. I’m connecting as if I were in Spain now (and I get better song selections, go figure), but I got an email saying they would be changing the Spanish Yahoo Music layout too. :frowning:

What I love the most about Yahoo Music that Pandora doesn’t have is the ability to rate the songs in a scale, not just a thumbs up or down. That way the songs I like the most are played the most, and the artists I love the most are on rotation more often. With Pandora, it’s more hit or miss. Sometimes I like a song, but not as much as others or I’ve had my share of it for the day, and there is no way for me to tell the damn system that I prefer some songs above others, and the shitty thing puts the songs I like less on more rotation than those I like the most!!!
