No, that most certainly doesn’t mean that. I was saying there that his foreign cultured accent/language would turn away Americans listening to his possible critiques. That doesn’t remotely imply that Americans need to “[understand] the unspoken class-system implications of non-American accents” to get his jokes. ---

The more I think about it, the more I love the choice. Go big or go home. As Stewart described Stephen Colbert after the infamous Correspondents’ Dinner where he gleefully skewered Bush 43, it’s “Balls-o-licious.” 😉 I think Noah has the humor chops and the gravity - like an Oliver and Colbert along with Stewart. It will be interesting to see how many folks see him “laughing _with_” or “laughing _at_”. ---

He does a skit about being mistaken for the Black Hitler in Germany - I don’t think his tweets are really going to be any worse than that … there’s going to be some lame fat lady jokes and some Jews control the world jokes, which are not _great_ but not _horrible_ either. The worst reaction any of his tweets got here is the “And the Oscar goes to … jail!” one, and I thought that was hilarious. ---

I wouldn’t worry about the hire. As with any show of this nature, if it falls flat he’ll be replaced in a damn hurry. Stewart himself might decide after some time away that he didn’t want to leave after all. Remember the Conan/Leno situation? But even if Stewart really does want to stay out, there are plenty of other directions to go if Noah fails. ---

Not entirely sure what you’re saying. Americans are not at all good at tellings Brit/Australian/South African accents apart, but we’re just fine at telling New York/New Jersey/Appalachia/Alabama/Texas/Ohio accents apart, distinguishing between black, white, Latino, etc. accents at the same time. I suspect he’ll use accents as part of his Daily Show act. I doubt that people will listen to his natural accent and think much about it beyond, “Ooh, he’s British, I love British accents!” ---

And by “concerned”, I mean “pretend to be concerned”, because it would take a pretty tortured reading of this tweet: “So I must make my woman fear my penis? RT @UberFacts: The more you fear something, the bigger it appears.” or this tweet: “So she gets fat? RT @missdanibagel: When a woman is loved correctly, she becomes 10 times the woman she was before” to make the case that the guy is anti-woman as your link states. ---

Comedy is still the one area where you can say anything you want, as long as it’s just for laughs. Those who say things like “cancer is not funny” need to just stay away from comedians that joke about cancer rather than sending them nastygrams or starting campaigns. ---

The Daily Show is edgy at times, but Jon Stewart is not. This does not bode well for his future. ---

I don’t understand why the penis joke was offensive either (I don’t understand it at all), but the Jew jokes and some of the fat chick jokes are. You only quoted the two inoffensive ones. ---

No, his standup is not built around accents. No. Flat no. It is built around race and culture. That can possibly involve accents, but does not have to do so and 99% of the time doesn’t. The fact that he has an accent is not meaningful. His accent is is no way a signifier of cultural position to Americans. In short, your every statement in this thread about Noah has been wrong and your every statement about Americans has been wrong. I don’t know where you live or what your background is, but I can guarantee that Noah understands Americans better than you do. Is that clear enough? You’ve denied what seems to the rest of us the clear meaning of your own words, so I don’t want more misunderstanding. ---

If it were, any criticism of Israel could simply be negated by crying anti-Semitism. Criticizing Israel is perfectly acceptable material for a comedian. Jon Stewart does it pretty routinely. Seriously, we’re going to stop the Daily Show over pretending to be offended by this: “A hot white woman with ass is like a unicorn. Even if you do see one, you’ll probably never get to ride it.” or this: ““Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I’m sexy!” - fat chicks everywhere.” (I’ve now quoted every single supposedly offensive quote from that link, and none of them are more offensive than the single Jon Stewart quote I found in two minutes of googling) ---
