Forgive me, I dropped my OT reference without citation.
And the Lord said unto Moses,** I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people**:
Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.
– Exodus 32: 9-10 (KJV)
You know, believe it or not, Israel actually isn’t doing that terrible. It would be good to make peace, but as far as Israel is concerned, the status quo could continue for quite a while.
I wonder how Israel will act when they start to feel guilt over the way teh palestinians have been treated. perhaps they will let them open up casinos in the West Bank adn let them sell tax free cigarettes.
America has been down this road and it was one of the most shameful episodes in our history. Perhaps it was a necessary episode but in hindsight, it seems like there was so much we could have done to prevent all that suffering.
Not to derail but I have heard the “Republicans proposed a health care bill like the one that just passed back in 1993” line a few times. Anyone have a cite?
I think he was talking about the folks taht elected netenyahu, the ones that voted for the ultraconservative party instead of the merely conservative party.
I read that Netanyahu and his opponenthad a debate about who was MORe supportinve of Pollard. He may be a hangnail to you but he seems to be a national hero to others.
Things that are unsustainable must, by definition, come to an end. It would be a crime of huge proportions if the world misses a chance now to lock in the security of Israel before it is too late. The economic and demographic pressure is still just a threat. In a couple of decades, why would the other side want to make peace?
Obviously, making peace while you have the whip hand is the smart play.
He would need not only the determination but the vision to place peace and nation above career, and work for it, like Begin did. I would still like to see any evidence whatsoever that he has it. The jingos in this thread sadly cannot; can anyone else?
Again, Pollard is an extreme flight risk, which will be a major factor in any parole decision. Can Israel give any assurances that it will not spirit him away if he is released?
Knowing his views, I think you are wrong. By “Israeli public who elected N”, I took him to mean that the public as a whole was implicated - which would fit perfectly with his black-or-white thinking.
I know it cannot be your intent, but this rather awkward choice of phrasing makes it appear that you believe some Jews are part of a cabal that controls the world.
