# "Jonesing" - Where did it come from?

I keep hearing the term “jonesing” for “extreme craving/needing a ‘fix’”. Where did this come from? In my awareness, it just sprang whole into the world about two or three years ago. I understand that this may not be the case, but I never heard it until the term was apparently a _fait accompli_ and had already made its way into the collective consciousness.
C’mon, folks! I’m jonesing for an explanation. 🙂
