# Joni Mitchell Returns to Newport

For the first time in 9 years, Joni Mitchell performed in public last weekend at the Newport Folk Festival. After her 2015 brain aneurysm she taught herself how to play the guitar again by watching old tapes of herself. Saw this last night, and it just made me so happy. I’ve been a huge fan since forever. I saw her at the Troubadour after her first album was released, and it was my favorite event there … well, next to Dave von Ronk trying to out-sing the torrential rain on the metal roof.

Her singing _Both Sides Now_ was so sweet, and at her age, she really has seen both sides. It made me tear up a bit.
