No, no, no – there are a number of “no god” choices: Michael Bay, McG, Barry Sonnenfeld, Renny Harlin… or what if you’d heard that George Lucas decided to do it? The “no god, no buddha, no justice” option: Joel Schumacher. We’d have nipples on Capt. America and Hawkeye would be played by Jim Carrey. The world has dodged a bullet here, people. ---

On a serious note: What’s the appeal, exactly, of Joss Whedon? I’ve seen exactly two (2) entertainments that he had a hand in that I actually liked. One was **Toy Story** , which I really, really adore (though not so much as the even better **Toy Story 2** ), but which also employed Whedon as one in a team of writers, so I guess you can’t credibly refer to it as a “Joss Whedon movie”. The other is the original **X-Men** , which I like _despite_ Whedon and his contributing one of the most grating dialog clunkers in recent memory (which was referred to up-thread). As for all the rest? Couldn’t get into either of his most vaunted and personal creations ( **Buffy** and **Firefly** ), I haven’t seen **Dollhouse** or **Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog** , and a actively loathe his single-handed fuck up of **Alien: Resurrection** and his tarnishing, however slightly, the reputation of a good director (Jean-Pierre Jeunet) in the process. In short, I view him in much the same way as I do Quentin Tarantino, only more so: someone who’s so in love with his “singular”, “creative”, “witty” voice that he has to make each and every one of his characters, no matter their background or what situation they’re in, sound exactly like him. He’s a hack of the lowest order, in other words, and not so very different, in my mind, from the likes of Michael Bay and Brett Ratner. ---

Joss Whedon was not a credited writer on X-Men. So any credit or blame for that movie’s dialogue should solely go to screenwriter David Hayter. The fact that Whedon admits the lightning line is his (and nothing from the rest of the movie) tells you all you need to know about how much he considers X-Men one of his movies. And Alien Resurrection is 10x the movie that Alien 3 was. ---
