Why would you exempt those? They reflect societal changes just as much as the tips about radiation.
I just figured they’d be a given. The '64 edition recommends drinking half and half for a “fattening up” diet.
Reminds me of Sterling in *Mad Men *after his heart attack. He’d been fearing his ulcer–which he’d been treating by drinking cream. (Supplemented, of course, with lashings of booze & ciggies.)
I inherited two different editions of Meta Givens’ Modern Cooking Encyclopedia. Some of the recipes reflect Depression shortages & wartime rationing. But they’re still useful.
Newest Prize: A pristeen copy of the 1961 edition of the New York Times Cookbook. Excellent recipes–lots of butter & cream, but one learns to balance a menu. Plus a touch of sophistication; Betty Draper probably has a copy.
Beaver Tail:
Hold over open flame until rough skin blisters. Remove from heat. When cool, peel off skin. Roast over coals or simmer until tender.
Unfortunately, no recommended side dishes.
