So wait , the idiot freeloaders who have stiffed someone, get a pass because they went on the show? Now the show pays their debt? I think that ruins it for me. ---

And you’re not married? Why didn’t you marry the father?!” I understand thinking that it’s stupid to have kids by known deadbeats but it’s rarely relevant to the case. I don’t care if she has 14 kids by 14 dads and every one of them is on state aid and gets money from funds meant for blind widows, the point is whether she banged up the other guy’s car. And, as the ebay fraud case (youtube it) proved, married moms aren’t necessarily moral either. ---

The price they pay is that everyone in North America knows exactly what kind of idiot they are now. It basically evens out. I think when Judy is going after people’s private lives in terms of baby daddies and baby mommies, maybe she’s going back to her years in family court - she’s getting a feel for the dynamics of the family situation and all. I’ll agree that being married and having three kids with the same guy doesn’t guarantee that you’re an upstanding citizen, but a 21 year old standing before her with four kids by four different fathers is painting a certain kind of picture. ---

How many judge shows are on TV now? Those I can name off the top of my head: Judge Judy People’s Court (Marilyn Milian) Judge Joe Brown Judge Mathis (my favorite, though I don’t watch any religiously) I know there are others. ---

When I lived in LA I was a “professional audience member.” Yes, it’s a real job. I once spent a week in the audiences for both Judge Joe and Judge Judy. (BTW if you look at Judy’s set, the door to her left enters directly into Joe’s court. The door to her right goes into Divorce Court.) Judge Joe was fun, down to earth and an all-around nice guy. He joked with us, had a Q & A session and let us watch as his make-up lady came out between takes and spray painted his bald spot! Judy, OTOH, went back to her dressing room when she wasn’t on camera. She also kicked one of the witnesses out for how he was dressed. I miss the Bald Judge. “Let’s get it on!” ---

Judge Judy tells them to leave & come back with proper attire. She will NOT yell at people for body piercing & tell them to remove them in court. If I were a Judge, I’d complain about this. Both are IMAGE! People body pierce because of an ego hung-up & they want to fit in. And GOD does NOT like us alternating our body! One of the cases that made Judge Judy’s bones when she was still a sitting family court judge in NYC was an ambassador from Zimbabwe who was suspected of beating his son. Other judges were afraid of signing a warrant to bring him in and she was told by some advisor to the court system that “this is a cultural difference, and it might interfere with our relationship with Zimbabwe if he’s arrested”. Judy’s take was “I looked all through my house, the back of my electronics, all the items in my cabinets and under my sink… I didn’t find one damned thing from Zimbabwe, so what if they stop trading with us? And I don’t give a damn about cultural differences when it comes to abusing kids.” That said one of her former co-workers who was interviewed said that Judy wasn’t half as happy to get the TV show and resign as her clerks and office workers were (she wasn’t very popular). Her husband was judge on _The People’s Court_ a few years back. What I like about Judge Mathis is that he knows he’s not on the SCotUS and he acknowledges how lucky he is to be earning a ton of money (I doubt he makes 10% of what Judy makes [I think that now Oprah is gone she’s the highest paid woman on daytime TV] but he makes several times what he did as a ‘real’ judge). One time a woman seemed really embarrassed at what a freak show the friends/relatives who were serving as her witnesses seemed and apologized for it and he said something like “Trust me, the weirder the people the weirder the commercial. The weirder the commercial the more people watch. The more people watch the more money I make and the longer I stay on the air. I have a kid doing grad work at U. Chicago\*, a junior at Princeton\*, a freshman at Morehouse\*, another who wants to go to medical school when she graduates. Be as freaky as you wanna be, and folks _please_ keep watching.” I can’t remember the actual names of the schools his kids go to so I’m using substitutes, but it was several kids and all were expensive schools. ---
