It’s not like American culture itself doesn’t have a wide double standard with this sort of thing. I believe I’ve encountered a commonplace of middle aged divorced women who’ve embraced their bisexuality and who’d certainly be broadminded enough to have lunch with a bisexual man, but could never consider dating him. ---

So she seems to be saying, “Lesbians hot, gays disgusting”. In other word, the discussion and consensus on a particularly rowdy guys night out. ---

You guys are missing something. The band she is in has been held up by gay Russians as being a pro-gay force, due to the lesbianism of her band. This is kinda like k.d.lang or someone coming out and saying she would disown her gay son. It’s as if Neil Patrick Harris came out and said he’d disown his lesbian daughter. Imagine if Cher came out and said something like this. So I’m pretty surprised you guys are downplaying this. Of course you’ve never heard of her. How many of us listen to Russian pop music? She’s not so much an activist, just a gay icon. Or former gay icon, now. ---

I remember them both “coming out” as straight pretty shortly after they became famous. I’d be surprised if they had a particular cachet with Russian LGBTs, given how transparently the whole thing was designed specifically to cater to straight male sexual fantasies. ---
