> I have a rotating list of supervisors at work. For some reason the vast majority of them are old ladies. Most of them are pretty nice but a few really need to check into that nursing home where they can be assholes a little more quietly. Today’s supervisor is 75 and has me confused with one of her poor daughters. She just talked to me in the sort of way that makes me want to reach out and tell her how pathetic it is that’s she’s not fucking retired already. There is no way I will be doing this job thirty years from now unless my other choice is eating cat food which will not happen unless we get a total collapse of the stock market and/or possibly an alien invasion and massive asteroid hit. More importantly if she’s going to be that condescending, she needs to reserve it for a daughter who can at least expect an inheritance for putting up with her infantile bullshit.

I work in a supermarket although I’m not a supermarket employee. The owner has a charity case who is around 76. He is colour blind, bad eye sight (fortunately has just finally got glasses), really deaf, one bad arm & doesn’t like women telling him what to do. He was originally in the bakery (where the bakers do most of the heavy lifting) was then moved to the laundry/cleaning when the bakery manager basically said either he went or she would go! His mistakes in the laundry were bad enough to be a health issue & his cleaning generally had to be redone. Now he is shuffled from department to department (including the bakery) Not my dept though thank God as we are a private firm.

I would hate to be in that position.

I’d like to be out of there at 60. I will definitely be gone by 65 (retirement age over here)

Congrats on the job!!

But I’m confused, aren’t the Black Hills in South Dakota? Or are you planning on going to the roundup and then on to Colorado?

No, I won’t be heading down to CO. As I said, I don’t know anyone down that way.

I find I can tolerate screeching kids much better than I can tolerate screeching adults. I’ve complained in rants threads before about the screaming, shrieking, yelling adult women who play soccer in my school at lunchtime.

Although I’m an adult, and when I get majorly scared on an airplane, everyone around me had better have earplugs. ☹

Google Maps used to be great for many things, including figuring out bus routes/bus stops. It had little bus pictures you’d click on for each stop, and when you clicked, it’d tell you the number of each bus that stopped there.

Now they still have the bus pictures (if you zoom in a lot!) and sometimes they do nothing if you click on them, and sometimes they give you the numbers of only 1 or 2 buses that stop there.

Oh, and the “friend” of mine who, when I complained about this on Facebook, bragged that she didn’t have to use public transit: FUCK YOU. I can’t stand self-righteous people like that. ☹

I know! Our first kid got her first tooth at four months and a bit, so I figured Small might start early, but I wasn’t prepared for this early. Plus Widget never had a terrible time teething, so this is all new.

The washcloth is a great idea. I’ve stuck one in the freezer. Thank you.

A friend of mine is a pharmacist- and ‘trained reiki practitioner’. I’m pretty sure the two should just cancel out, in a matter-antimatter sort of fashion.

Anyone want to swap for my noisy/mental neighbour?
He’s a bit more creative, he either yells ‘WOOOO!’ every few minutes, or sings, loudly, from his favourite smoking spot, right outside my bedroom window. Any time, day or night, I’ve never detected a pattern.

He also yells comments about my tits occasionally when I’m going in or out the house.

I really need to live somewhere less shitty than this.

I don’t “have” to take public transit either. It’s just incredibly convenient.

I go to a transit station 1.5 miles from my apartment. Park there for free. Get on the bus. Instead of stressing out about traffic into downtown, I spend my time watching Doctor Who, or movies, or playing games and listening to music. I get dropped off right in front of my building. I get on the bus to come home 1.5 blocks from work. Similarly arrive back at the TS without being stressed out by traffic. And it costs me slightly less than it would cost to pay for parking and gas. Plus there’s the whole ‘enjoying the ride and not stressing out’ thing (have I mentioned that yet?) and I manage to put about 6,000 fewer miles on my car every year.

Most of the people on my bus are similar older professionals. Hell, there’s a guy who parks a damned fine beemer in the transit ramp and then rides my bus.

I could get a charity case working (even if sucks that he’s such an asshole) if they had no other choice but many of these old woman are retired professionals or married to someone with a good job. They must have a fair amount of money as I certainly hear from them about things like vacations and house renovations. Who the fuck wants to be 73 and still getting up early on a Sunday or working five days a week if you have other options in life? I’d shoot myself first. Have some goddamned dignity and retire already. The only kind of work I hope I’m still doing 30 years from now is writing professionally.

Glad you picked up on that ,yes, he is a bit of an asshole. I thought he was a sweet old guy until I heard that if he had a complaint about a staff member he was straight up to the manager’s office.

& there are 2 other people (at least) who are over retirement age, but they are capable of doing their jobs.

I have a friend on Facebook whose husband is a member of the Canadian military, though he’s not deployed overseas. Today she posted one of those images going around Facebook etc about how you shouldn’t complain about heat or your job because it’s not 120 and you’re not in uniform and carrying however many pounds of gear and keeping your head down and fighting for freedom and blah blah blah…

I’d be pissed about her dismissing the problems of anyone who works outside (like my husband who works for the US Postal Service), except that her husband just a few weeks ago was posting up a storm about how much he haaaaaated his then-current (Canada-based) posting and how awful it was and he couldn’t wait to get to his new (current) one. So I just have to laugh.

[Listen to me, you paranoid, stupid, anti-vaccine, collection of lunatic delusions and bizarre fantasies, you barely literate disgrace to humanity, you lover of measles and defender of rubella, you wisher of more children dead from the dozens of diseases that murdered millions of babies in the age before vaccines,](http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/idepc/immunize/immrule/comments/comment178.pdf%5B/url)

Vaccines do not cause autism. Your child does not have autism because of vaccines. How DARE you run to the Minnesota Department of Health and write such nonsense! How DARE you go there and lobby directly for measures that endanger children’s health! How DARE you call me puerile because I have the nerve to ask which vaccines you want removed from the schedule and which vaccines preventable diseases you want back!

You, Nancy Hokkanen, are not just a garden variety moron. You are not just an average idiot. You are literally the worst kind of idiot: a contagious idiot. I am sick and tired of parents like you who open their mouths and let lunacy fall out.

Go ahead. Get rid of vaccines as you want. And watch as you have blood on your hands. Watch as kids get injured from vaccine preventable diseases. I have no idea why you think that a resurgence of such illnesses will not affect your children. Do you really imagine that measles is going to take one look at your children and run away? That hib gives a flying fuck that you wash your hands? That the flu gives a damn if you eat organic? That we’ll just sit back and all will be will once we’ve patted viruses on the head and told them to make nice-nice?

I swear to god I am a nice person but I swear to god some people should be banished to an island somewhere far away from the rest of us as they are simply not fit for normal human company. Yes, vaccines, like other health measures, may carry of risk of potential injury. But they do not cause autism nor do they cause people to die. Just about all children (including your own, you stupid fool) would be worse off if we did not vaccinate. It’s not okay to tell us that you are willing to sacrifice the lives of the immune-compromised, babies too young to get vaccinated or those who do not sero-convert to your world class anti-science illiteracy. It’s not okay directly threaten public health because you are not bright enough to understand the concept of it.

In short you are a selfish, birdbrained, half wit and you may officially kiss my vaccinated backside and the backsides of my vaccinated childen.

I thought about you the other day, **LavenderBlue**. I was reading _Bleak House_ and I got to the part where Esther Summerson catches smallpox and loses her good looks. I started wondering how the heck that happened. So I looked up smallpox online. Saw a picture of the lesions and said, “Oh. That’s how.”

And then it hit me: I had to look up what smallpox did to people. I’ve never had it. Never known anyone who has had it. Never even got vaccinated for it…because it was \*eradicated \*due to vaccinations. One of the scourges of humanity throughout history is gone now.

I’m not saying we should bring smallpox back by any means, but I for one would not shed a tear if anti-vaxxers got a mild case of it.
