There used to be miniature elephants! Horse sized or smaller, they only went extinct a few thousand years ago.

I could easily image these pulling carts, or working as their larger cousins do–\*i.e. \* lifting & toteing stuff, as in SE Asia. But smaller. Like those miniature skipshovels, called Wildcats, vs. full-scale bulldozers.
Even as family pets… 🙂

That Weekly World News article reminds me of a commercial\* I’ve seen, which featured hippos roughly the size of gerbils. They were shown lazing about in a water dish, and I decided then and there that if such a beast was ever created, I’d be first in line at the pet store. They could eat brussel sprouts like cabbages, and finish off that box of Grape Nuts that’s been in my cupboard for months (I seem to recall real Hippos at the zoo eating cabbages, roughage and such, so for my Pocket Hippos, brussel sprouts and Grape Nuts should be good eats).
If you could get your elephants down to the same scale **Bosda** , I’d probably spring for some of those too. Maybe get some mini crocodiles, a teeny-tiny Steve Irwin, and I could have the home version of the Crocodile Hunter in an aquarium in my living room!

Surely if the Weekly World News is quoting Pets, Pets and More Pets, it must be true, right?
It’s sad that I really do actually want a teeny tiny elephant. Sigh… someday, science will catch up with my wishlist 😉
